Occasional Check Engine Light

My Check Engine light seems to come on occasionally, unfortunately because the 89 Accord has an OBD-0 computer it doesn't have a memory to store error codes. This has made it especially troublesome to try and diagnose since Honda can't seem to get the light to come on for them. I was wondering, what would I need to buy and where could I buy it so that when the light comes on I can retrieve the error code for myself?

look under the seat at the light on the ECU. when the check engine light comes on pull over and look, count the flashes, on this site there is a guide to checking error codes.
