Will the 86-87 auto transmissions fit 88-89 and vice-versa? The hollander interchange manual says that i need an 88-89 tranny for my 88 accord but will an 87 work? thanks

I know the 89 will fit an 86.
The 89 is a much better transmission.

I swapped an auto from an 89 carb to an 86 F.I. The only difference between the carb and F.I. is the gear ratios. The only difference between 86-87 and 88-89 is that the 88-89 is a better improved version. There was a problem with the 86-87's second gear. There's a T.S.B somewhere on here about it.
So, to answer your question, yes it will swap with no problem. I suggest if you're staying with auto stick with 88-89.

The reason i am asking is my transmission has no reverse or overdrive. Both have worked a couple times but will work then acts as if in neutral. I have adjusted the tv cable with no luck, swapped fluids. Is my tranny fried or is there anything else i can do? Thanks

yeah i would suggest the carb 89 tranny if you want MPG and the 89 fuel injected one if you want it to be a lil more quick. the difference is on the final drive

they gearing can be slightly different as far as i was told when i swapped my auto. but i used one from an '88. if i remember correctly the fuel injected cars were indeed geared slightly different from the carb models. but if its from an A20, its going to fit. may have to change axles if its not the same but could be wrong.
