yea so earlier, me and 2drSE-I went to the local pull-a-part and i got a couple goodies. i finally got a new door handle for the passenger side front door. but my favorite, a spoiler off a 2g(i think) teggy. its the ducktail kinda lookin one, but it was about 2 inches too wide, so i had to do some choppin.
just got it bolted back on, now that it fits, doesnt look too shabby. but the bottom of it and the sides kinda stick out cuz it doesnt mount flush, so i was thinkin about gettin some fender washers, and maybe puttin 2 in each side to keep it all down and flush, got any better ideas
anyways, then i just gotta hit it with the sander, bondo it for the smoothness, the rattle can that sukka.
damn... cant find the USB chord for my phone to my laptop so i cant put pix up, but ill get some up tomorrow, i took pix of the whole progress so if anybody wants to do it (i dont recommend) then they can have a lil HOW-TO

alright, keep in mind, its not done yet. these are just shots from fitting it, cutting it, refitting it, and cutting wholes in my trunk so i can bolt it in. now im bonding them together, smoothing out the bumps, and putting it in place. and yes, im taking more pix.

i see you decided to bolt it in haha. im still depressed i couldnt find that distributor or that ecu :-( they usually have tons of 4gees and tegs

itzdave
12-05-2007, 01:18 PM
yea, one of the bolts broke off, now im kinda screwed, but im using a bunch a sealant and stuff to keep down, hope it works.
this little project is turning into being quite a pain in the ass. i shoulda just save up and got a JDM (what i really want). but, im convinced that by the time im done with it, it will look good, so im cool with that.
which reminds me, i need to go get some more bondo...

yea, i had to use bricks and vice grips to hold it down to help form it to my car, but im still thinkin im gunna have to use fender washers to keep it down and make it flush.

Nice pick, with a little work that can be a very clean wing :) Good work, cant wait to see the final results.

thats what i've always wanted to do. in the same way, molding it to the trunk lid. might just happen since i have a new car, i can now do some body work on my 3gee. never had luck finding the spoiler though. always gone or deteriorated badly.

2drSE-i
12-05-2007, 08:48 PM
nah hes got shaved badges guys. BTW, hes really good at bondo, he had some serious (very serious) rust issues on his rear quarters, not sure where this car came from but im hoping to god its not from oklahoma

itzdave
12-06-2007, 08:29 AM
yea i was pretty lucky to find it, matter of fact, when we were walking around i asked him, 'hey whats the car that had the spoiler like that', then there it was. but i was kinda hesitant cuz i dont really like spoilers, but i love the jdm ducktail, just cant afford one, and this was cheap so i figured id give it a try, and if it didnt work out oh well.
yea i had holes in my rear quarter panels so i big a had a pic of a pack cigarretes in one of the holes. theyre all bondo'd and 'glassed up, need to redo a couple spots on the drivers side tho.
i thought about maybe painting 3geez in the spot, the 3 where the H was.
k, i gotta go sand down this bondo now, then get it ready for paint.

its looking good, might be a good option for the guys that cant get ahold of ducktails. cant wait to see it done

haha ive always wanted a moulded on ducktail spoiler, i dont like the ends of mine, it doesnt go to the corner of the car, just the trunk

itzdave
12-06-2007, 01:40 PM
alrighty. got the bondo sanded down, wasnt happy with it, so i just threw down a second, more filling, layer. shitty thing is, its so cold outside that this stuff wont harden very quickly, so ill prolly have to wait to sand it again.
guys, this is very important, ALWAYS WEAR APROPRIATE SAFTEY EQUIPMENT!

Wow Dave, cool stuff! I picked up one of those same spoilers just a few weeks ago. The thing I was worried about was the foam that the spoiler was made of. It's kinda soft, and people love squeezing foam spoilers, cracking all the paint on it and possibly the bondo. Are you going to add any kind of flexible agent when you paint it, or just tell people to keep their grubby hands off?

It's funny, that spoiler hung off my car about the same distance on the sides. I thought for sure that it would be just perfect for the 3g Accord, but I guess not.

I was thinking a European / Japanese Prelude spoiler might even be cool too, since it's just the top ridge, and not such a big piece. Can't wait to see it finished!

yea i hope nobody squeezes it, especially anywhere near the bondo, cuz then it will crack. and as far as the paint goes, i just use a rattle can of flat black, thats what my whole car is. however i do have sticker that came with some goodies from summit racing that says 'you can LOOK all you want, just PLEASE dont touch'. i was thinkin bout puttin that on the spoiler, but then that just might make people wanna poke at it.

Hey, itzdave and 2DrSei, You guys see the 89 sei coupe that's out at pull a part ?(the green one) one of us should go snag those rear disk brakes ! That's where I got the cupholders and bose stuff ! We should have a meet out there sometime !

And yeah, this ice storm blows.

For colder weather use a little more hardner to make it heat up.
It is good to see you did not give up on this , even though you had several set backs.. That is a good sign it will turn out great.

If that was the foamy spoiler you may be ok with bondo, but had it been anything else I would not use bondo for any structural type buliding, I would start with tiger hair, (bondo glass) and then finish it off with the bondo.

The trunk lid does move around on ya while you are driving.

itzdave
12-11-2007, 07:10 AM
the ice storm hit after the bondo was on, i just cant sand it now. and yea, i would have used the bondo-glass but the gap from the trunk to the spoiler wasnt very big, so i should be alright.

it must have been gone already. I did see it though last time i was there, i stole the SE-i emblem and looked at the fucked up tan seats and was like...eh its probly not worth it.
