The adjuster nut is an M6, which is 6mm diameter (uses a 10mm wrench). Any hardware store should have something that will work. It doesn't have to be a flange nut either, a regular nut and washer is fine.

I'm pretty sure its the fine thread 6mm so be wary when you thread it on. And for some reason I think the book calls out for the wrong size.

Ive replaced4 alternators this year too. Current draw doesnt kill them as they can take a 60a load. but its because they are old. old ones die

Spell check FTW.

For oem quality, go only with Denso. There were the original manufacturer, so they have ALL the parts to remanufacture them. Others will only sandblast the case and replace the brushes and bearings with aftermarket crap. Usually everything else is reused. Always worth the extra $20-$40. Same goes for starters.

If you need a higher output alternator, there is a seller on ebay that does good work. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170122459039

M6x1.00 is probably not going to be at your average hardware or parts store. If where you're at is anywhere like up here you will have to order it from an auto store and wait. I ordered some grade 12 (10.8) metric hardware for my suspension from Lordco in BC and had to wait about 2 weeks for it to show up. I believe they were M12x1.25 bolts.

Really? You guys are deprived then. Even the common home stores (Home Depot, Menards, Lowes) carry a limited selection of metric hardware. M6 is very common too. And in this case the grade won't matter.
M12 though, those are tougher. If you can find an Ace Hardware they have a better selection of Metric including M12 coarse and fine. Napa is good too but for class 10.8 fine thread it's pretty much OEM or special order from an industrial supplier. My Nissan truck uses lots of M12 fine threads.

Yeah, I just replaced the alternator in my Toyota (on warranty, the old one was a 6 month old rebuild) and it took Napa in Red Deer 2 DAYS to get a replacement in. I thought the Kootenays where I used to live was bad, but up here, we are >2 hours away from either Edmonton or Calgary, and you still can't get anything. I also work at a machine shop and we stock NO metric hardware whatsoever.

Edit: Everyone had M12x1.75, but nothing fine. Not even Honda.

I think it's 8x1.25, but I guess I'm in the minority. You're talking about the nut that adjusts the water pump/alternator belt tension, right?

There are actually two fasteners to deal with when adjusting the alternator. First you have to loosen the clamping bolt, which is an M8 and uses a 12mm wrench. The you adjust the tension nut, which is an M6 and uses a 10mm wrench.

That figures. Now I feel like a dumbass! :beat:

Turns out the Preludes and Accords use different eye bolts. The Prelude adjuster nuts are 6mm. The Accord adjuster nuts are 8mm. So the Accords have bigger nuts. Uhh, hhhuh huh, huh.. hehe, heh... I said nuts. :kekeke:
