86 DX, 5 speed, gold top valve cover A20A1
A coworker spotted this one in somebody's yard and stopped to ask about it. That was several weeks ago, they called yesteday asking him if he wanted it for 300, he talked them down over the phone to 200, we went and looked at it today during lunch.. and bought it for 180.
He is letting me get it from him for the same price.
I drove it back to work, it is amazingly tight car to have 240K miles. The power steering isnt working, and it really isnt that bad without it!! The clutch was slipping, it was out of adjustment, we adjusted it and it drove great then. It is carbed :)
For that money I cant go wrong as a parts car but it drives too good to be a parts car, so now I will be conflicted about what to do with it.:violin:

I found a whole bundle of reciepts in the glovebox of work that has been done to it all in the past 5 years.
Interior is perfect, just needs shampoo a little. Has crank up windows, manual HVAC controls, not push button... honestly I have never seen an Accord like this before.

It drives and runs out great but it doenst have the raw guts my auto LX has, the Weber makes a huge difference. I love the way it is so quiet though.
I cant believe it is a drivable car for 180 bucks, crap one of the invoices in the glove box 6000 miles ago was 328 for timing belt and tensioner.

Irondragon, thier out there... about three weeks ago I found a hatch back for 400 bucks but I passed on it, once, it sold to the next person that looked at it. I could not pass this one up, there are too many things on it I could use. The only thing I see wrong with it is outer RS CV joint and valve cover leaks, no oil spots under the car though.

Wohdog that bus is called a MIdbus, it is the fastest F'n school bus I ever drove. It is kind of uniuque, it has a CD player, intercom, 8.1 liter gas V8 multiport FI..Allison automatic 6 speed, drives like a car, and is not undersprung like a "short bus".

The coworker has side jobs that take him all over the place, so he is always running into deals... we got a nickname for him now "carlot" lol, I am glad he let me get that one:)

Hey roodoo, are you a school bus mechanic? A buddy of mine is a school bus mechanic. I'm always blown away by how HUGE all the parts are for buses compared to their car counterparts. Drum brakes that are like 12 inches wide, massive alterantors, huge wheels and tires. Pretty crazy stuff!

2oodoor
12-13-2007, 06:44 PM
NOpe, not exclusivley... that is the only yellow bus we have.
What is amazing is those charter buses, pushers.. wow that is some big stuff now.. There is a major charter bus outfit in town though and I trip on those old guys that work on those things, been working on them for years.. I dont see how they do it. Huge detroit diesels that are as big as half a car .
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t280/roodoo2/1197591974.jpg
^^^ the stack of work order invoices in the glove box, totals over 2000 dollars worth of work done to maintain that Accord, dating back to 2003. Oil changes, water pump, brakes, it is neat to look at. My other Accord has all that too in a notepad in the glovebox plus reciepts from before I got it.

Yep remember I painted the LX blue and put a trunk emblem on it, this one is off the DX original gold top valve cover. Not many of these around because they ran out and started using the glued emblem. My 86 LX even had the glued emblem (black top)

( ok that is a bread tie holding the spark wires up, that is totally temporary guys,, lol.)

There were two nice hatchback bodies, I really didnt see why one of them was in the yard, perfect.
an old MR2 with spoiler, I was tempted.. lol
several transmissions,, I was looking for a passenger side manual side mirror, did they even make those? I took off a electric one, but they wanted 20 bucks for it, I put it back.
Those fender mouldings were made for that sedan, I wonder if they would look good on the DX painted black with the side mouldings..

DGV-5A manual choke
I may be able to make it fit the Honda using the homemade plate that I found inside the truck. Or just fill and redrill the manifold.
Someone has changed the throttle shaft hardware already but they lost the secondary linkage in the process, I can make something I think.
Even though the oem carb is working good on the DX, it still does the fast idle thing too crazy and I am ready to do away with it. I sure I will go through this carb before I use it.

it's going to be muddy this weekend but Im going back for those fender moudlings, the DX does have rear fender mouldings oem, and those rear ones would look good painted semigloss.
There must be like three different center console armrests, the one I got is so dinky, my other one is bigger yet there is even a larger on on SEI I believe??

those mouldings are rare, no I didnt but I wish I did, I like the rear ones, not so much the front ones.
the weber is the same one I posted in the manifold thread (go look!) yesterday, the bigger one. It works great, there was nothing wrong with it except it needed cleaning. I rejetted it but I need to go bigger with the idle jets (50 is too small) I also have another extra one that needs shaft bushings.
I have (had) one for sale in the marketplace for months now. That one is on the other car right now but I may swap it out again since I discovered the difference in choke sizes between the two.

I actually got a new set in a package deal when I bought my ventvisors. They're not really my style, but I got the package for less than I could have gotten the visors alone.
I have thought about using them as a template to make rust repair panels.

hrnnm about an 84 or so... it was a replacement carb. I was going to the JY and looking under the hood of every Japan made truck, and late 70's early 80's car. Webers were widely used back then as replacements for finicky hard to fix Japanese carbs. That particular one though DGV-5A originally came off a European Ford. either EDM or a USDM Capri.

I found a Weber in the j/y last week. Unfortunately it was on an old Fiat. According to carbsunlimiteds site it was probably a 34 ABF? All I know is I turned it over and the throttle plates looked tiny, actually looked smaller then the primary on my 32/36. It looked like it hadn't been run very long before it went to the j/y and I thought about grabbing it to throw up on Ebay, but didn't think I would actually bother.
This won't deter me from my j/y search for a 38 though.

But back to the original topic, the paint looks really nice. Did you do anything special to bring it back?

2oodoor
10-07-2008, 01:52 PM
Greentea, would it be a 34 DMSA 1/100? My weber book shows that one on a Fiat , also if it was a Fiat dino it could be a 40 DCNF (very interesting carb IMO) with any of them you may want to grab all the jets out of them. It it a progressive carb because the jet numbers in the book seem to indicate it is.
Paint, nothing actually it looks bad on the top panels. I have not done any cosmetic work to that car at all other than the 15 inch steelies.

greentee76
10-07-2008, 02:18 PM
Your guess is probably better than mine, all I know for sure is that the plates (butterflies) looked REALLY small. I actually would have guessed 28 but I wasn't able to find anything stamped on the casting at all, just the usually weber cast into the top. It was definately a progressive, probably would have grabbed it if it were sync. It did look like it was a conversion kit though which is why I looked at carbsunlimiteds offering. If it had been a 40 it would have been going with me:).

I may reconsider that plan, he may mysterously dissappeear if he was to wreck that one. :flash:Maybe get him started on his moms crown vic.
I started out driving with a vw bug, learning a stick was pretty easy on that, but with the way traffic is around here now days I think he should drive an auto so he can pay attention too other drivers. It takes a while to drive a stick without thinking about it.

got rid of it today, had to leave a weber 32/36 on it ...
