Hello all, I'm finally going to post about my project. I have been lurking and posting here and there but not much really. So now I have some stuff to show, woohoo! I have an 87 hatch S(dx) which I plan to mod up with a new engine, suspension, and interior components. Right now shes bone stock since I have been just gathering parts to put on.

Plans for the hatch:
--Convert to EFI, put in newly rebuilt motor(hope to get some good numbers)
--Swap in all the SE-i brakes
--Switch over as much interior as possible from the SE-i
--Modify all dash lights to LED's
--Custom shifter gate(currently a WIP)
--CAI with AEM Bypass, and Dryflo
--2 1/4 exhaust all the way back with Magnaflow cat/muffler
--Lower 2 1/4, with ST sway bars and change over as many bushings to poly(ones I can find)
--Get rubber for rims
--Body work/paint(will do as much as I can, otherwise its too the bodyshop, if I can find a decent bodykit I'll slap it on)
--OBD-1 sometime in the next while..

So dirty :( makes me sad to post.. must get better pics!

I bought a parts car from b8er a while ago it seems now, anyhow its an 89 se-i coupe and has pretty much everything I want from it(score!). The engine was out when I bought it so after I picked it up I sent it off the Mr. R to get the top end pimped, and I recieved the finished job today(trigger for the thread). So yea heres some pics and words to follow:

These first pics are of my shop reno, not about the 3g but I did it FOR my 3g!! Myself and my dad did all the work, with correcting the old structure, wiring, lights, outlets, insulation, poly, osb. Oh and put in a door(we had to cut a bit to fit) because there was just like this old half ass plank thing for a door so I thought to beef it up for protection.

Before/During:

The pistons on the rear calipers actually screw in and out. To get them out they are screwed out. They are very hard to push in since the mechanism inside spins and pushes the piston out vice versa. Anyways nice workshop, and nice project car!

Ok so heres what I could find so far of the good stuff(things have been moved around ect, find other pieces later, these are the better things anyway haha.)
We've got some SS lines from ebay, that whole front suspension kit from ebay, took in the old calipers to a friend in town and he hooked me up with his rate, so I thought I better get the rest while im at it(new rotars and pads). He also resurfaced that flywheel for free and cleaned it up :D Pacesetter ceramic header(ordered from a store in town), didn't really need a port just that extra tube removed.

I'm pretty sure it will, its much much nicer then my maroon. The oil filter is also just a cap for the moment, I'm pretty much out of money now due to christmas and these last expenses haha. Well spent though!! I'll try to update as I go along instead of stacking up a bunch of pictures again :D

Oh and sadly I did not get other wip pics of the motor when it was apart, I was away for work and it was pretty much done when I got back(not a bad thing hehe). I'll get some pics of those tails tomorrow(never really looked at them because it doesnt go on the hatch :D)

Yes I'll be converting to EFI, dyno will hope to be done in spring/summer. I'm not rich at all haha I have just been stocking up on this stuff, oh and its the original TB(something down the line to upgrade). Thanks for the replys! (btw I'm learning as I go too, so hints and tips are welcomed :D)

Edit:

I'll be changing over all the brakes too, the front ones are in pretty good condition with low kms, just an ugly colour at the moment. Gonna clean them up and paint, will post pics when I get that underway.

I may be interested in this probably sometime after christmas if any, gotta get some mula first haha.

Thanks guys, I actually got those rims(I think bullard will recognize them :D) in summer but never could get rubber on em because I had to get that header over to Mr. R so he could match it up.

Got some work done today, I wish I had a printer so I could print out carrotman's conversion but I'll just have to remember/write it out. Started taking off the EFI parts I will need, and had some trouble getting the trailing arms off the rear discs(the mounts or whatever are pretty rusty and I don't want to reuse them(current hatch ones are better). There is quite a bit of rot on this car so far I have noticed! I'll keep taking off parts and get some pics when theres some progress to show. I hope to get the motor in within a few months(I'd like to get some damper mat in the interior while its all stripped down, but I need to get some first haha). Oh and what paint would you guys recommend to paint up the knuckles and those sorts of parts, im going to clean them up and make them look new again!

More work to be done tomorrow...

russiankid

The 86-87 trailing arms are different from the 88-89 ones. I remember reading that somewhere, so your 86' arms wont work.

The 86-87 trailing arms are different from the 88-89 ones. I remember reading that somewhere, so your 86' arms wont work.

I wasn't going to use them, I was going to use my trailing arm brackets.

Heres where it sits now:

All the EFI stuff so far I have taken off:

Inlcudes, ECU, harness(plus half of one.. with a different fuel rail?), canister, fuel filter, vac box, prop valve(brakes),
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/harness1.jpg

Fuse box splice..
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/harness2.jpg

Is the fuse box suppost to be spliced into there...? Because on the how-to it was not connected... someone let me know if someone hacked my harness. Going to have to fix that if so. Oh and on both how-to's they say to pull just the fuel pump but then I also read you need the tank aswell? Is getting this tank a must, will it give me problems if I just slap the other pump in there?

More shots:

Fenders off, removing harness.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/wip11.jpg

Front brake shot, nasty colour huh.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/wip12.jpg

Just some surface rust, gonna paint everything up and make it nice.

Fully stripped interior.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/wip13.jpg

Dash gone too!
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/wip14.jpg

Parts on roof, shop is cozy.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/wip15.jpg

Dash is exactally the colour I want(same with interior), but there is some damage to the center.. where someone tried to pry out an old stereo or something so theres some ugly marks.. oh well :(
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/wip16.jpg

The dash did NOT take 15 mins to get out as I read on here! Still gotta yoink out that harness, got most of it disconnected from all the clips and that, have to get the part undone from that fenders/bay area. Try to get that done today. The rear brakes are in the trunk so there off obvioulsy haha, I've gotta take them to a shop so I can get some new hardlines on the knuckles and the shock removed because I can't get it off! More to come later!

Well I got the harness out and stashed away for the moment, was working on the front brakes and getting off what I could, going to need to pick up a 2/3 jaw puller to get the rest done I think. I got all the clips and stuff off the line thats needed, and I took off the caps to access the fuel tank and that shit is right rusted so I may have to pick up a better tank(ugh). Well more to come, I'll try to make a trip to the jy next week to see about some parts if they look too bad.

Got a bit more work done:

Over the past few days I have been cleaning some parts, heres the intake mani all nice and clean, took a bit but looks much better now. Also cleaned the fuel rail, new gaskets, and put different injectors in because the ones that were in there were... uh toast.

Cleannnnnn.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/intake1.jpg

There was quite a bit of buildup inside so I got rid of pretty much all of it that I could.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/intake2.jpg

Could use a bit of a port job but its fine for now.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/intake3.jpg

Cleaned up the EGR valve a bit and put in the new gasket.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/egr1.jpg

Also polished this guy up, it was half covered in oil and gook and other corrosions, almost looks new :D

Cleaned vacuum rail, needs paint.

Currently struggling with the gas tank... not sure if I want to use this one it seems to be looking worse as I go along, I don't like that at all :( It seems that everything on the exterior that isn't easily visable is rusted to high hell, I was lucky to get the nut off the fuel filter on the front but the back one I don't know how thats going to turn out..(quite literally too). Need to get some paint so I can coat these parts!

Edited thread a bit, changed first post with goals.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/brakes4.jpg

Heres the rear knuckles as they sit, have to take them to a shop and get them disassembled.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/brakesrear1.jpg

Same with the front, other side off aswell, also have to get the new balljoints pressed in.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/frontbrakes1.jpg

Cabin harness is out, needs some repair and clean-up, new wire loom and some connectors, ect.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/harness3.jpg

So I thought I would take out the LCA's while I was taking off everything else but the bolt head snapped right off on both sides... so I cut the housing and moved it up but it's still stuck on there pretty damn good. I really hope the ones on the hatch don't have this problem or im screwed :Owned:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/lca1.jpg

I'm having trouble tracking down the paint I want but I'll continue searching. Also the VHT caliper paint says if you bake it you get better results, now has anyone tried this out on a caliper or would it not work and dryout/cook the rubber making it not worthwhile. Or is there something you can coat the rubber with before you put it in to avoid the dryout? Or is the baking not worth it for these since they will see heat from braking(says on the can this may also cure the paint). I think I'll use the same paint on the valve cover since I can bake that no probs. I think thats it for now, more stripping/cleaning and then painting to come.

russiankid
01-04-2008, 08:24 PM
If that happens on the hatch, make sure that you cant move the bolt and cut it off on both sides between the control arm and the mounting bracket. Then just get new bushings and bolts.

Hey I got your PM! I can't beleive I missed this thread so far.

You're doing a great job.

I can't confirm if you need the EFI tank or not. The extra EFI fuel feed line connects to the fuel pump only so it's not a matter of fuel tank. I know that the Carb pump fits the EFI tank but I don't know if the other fits well. If you can manage to put the EFI pump in the carb tank, you're set. I heard that the internal chambers aren't the same, this might cause a bit of a problem in the future. I think that smufguy did that at some point but I'm not 100% sure.

For the interior harness, this is a bit problematic tough. You have an Hatch and it's an 86-87, the Coupe is an 88-89 and there are some differences. The Coupe doesn't have the rear wiper. and I think the brake light wiring is a bit different. I'm not sure if the front harness will even connect with the rear harness.

You could try and see if the plugs are similar. If they do, just use the SE-i front harness, rewire the radio and add the missing wires for the rear wiper.

Your best bet would be to get the main harness from an 88-89 LX-i Hatch.

Thanks for the positive comments guys they keep me goin!

Heres the latest progress:

Sprayed a bunch of coats, must be like 4-5 pretty much emptied the can. This is after baking.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/vc01.jpg

Sanded the high stuff and some clear coats down.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/vc02.jpg

Can you say Gold Top A20A3 haha:cheers:

This is where I had some crazy turnout, as I was baking the top coat the smell started to get stronger(there is some when you initially bake it, its less strong if you let it dry overnight) and so I whipped it out asap and turns out I somewhat burned it I guess... but looking at it now I like it a lot haha!!
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/vc03.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/vc05.jpg

Cut a test hole in the cover, I might make it a little bigger so I can see the degrees.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/vc04.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/vc07.jpg

It's not perfect but hey for my first one I think it turned out pretty damn good! You live and learn..

Thanks for the reply carotman, I will have to look into the tank thing. I haven't been able to get the fuel pump out due to the nuts being rusted and just stripping.. I will look into the matching harness problem too.

Also what about all the stuff that wont be hooked up question?

Hey messy, I'm not exactually sure but I will show it when I get it back.

Got this in today, I think I will take it to work and clean it up(needs some minor filing and such) and also acid etch and alodine it(keeps corrosion at bay, we use it for aircraft so it should be fine for a strut bar). Then I might get it powder coated or paint, not sure what I want to do yet.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/dc_bar03.jpg

Here's the latest engine shot, I've got the iridium's in there, new cap/rotor and the new wires on. Theres also new coolant lines going on but I only have a few done since I need to figure out the correct path's. It's a shame but I had to blast the valve cover(there was some damage that I couldnt get rid of, and since the paint's a different colour I couldn't touch up) so I painted it again, not sure if I'm happy with it but it will do for now.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/engine7.jpg

This is my current project, I have got to get these door panels back to good condition. There are some large cracks that run down which will only get bigger if I don't fix them now.

Main cracks pictured here:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/doorpanel02.jpg

Super dirty, needs a damn good clean.. theres all sorts of strange organic growth.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/doorpanel03.jpg

This is the soiled carpet, it must have a ton of things in it.. I will be scrubbing the hell out of that and putting it back on. Both doors are like this and I will fix both.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/doorpanel01.jpg

I was headed to the local pick n' pull to pick up a few things and check out that rack for you Mark, but around half way there I hit a light and the car dies.. I was a bit thrown off since I haven't had any problems since that fuel pump crapped out, which was my initial thought. So I thought I would rather be stuck at/near home instead of 30 mins away. So I turned tail and made it home.

Pretty much the car wont idle after warm-up, it will idle when I start it up like normal(takes a bit of playing with the throttle so the choke stays on, this is a normal operation for my car). After that it will just die without giving it gas, even if you are at like 3k rpm on the highway, put in the clutch it will just drop right down and stall out. I'm sure there's a thread around here covering that, I figured I should document it.

i had a similar problem years ago with mine, and it turned out to just be a really dirty fuel filter. I replaced both for a few $ and all was well again. Do that and toss in a bottle (or two) of carb/fuel sys cleaner, and see how you make out. If that doesn't work, could be the carb. (buh). I really appreciate that you kept my req in mind for the pick-'n-pull.

Suggestion: take your painted cover, wrap it up and put it away until the motor is in the car. For now, just put on a dumpy stock one so you don't have to go nuts keeping it unscratched. Either that, or tape the snot out of it with purple painters tape. just make sure to remove/replace the tape every few weeks.

It's pretty messy back there, probably due to the holes in the rear quarters.. I got pretty much the back half of the factory mat scraped off, get more tomorrow. Then vaccum, wipe down and start applying the B-Quiet.

87roach
05-26-2008, 04:39 PM
Got more done yesterday, pretty much all the factory mat off except for the drivers side. I was working on cleaning/repairing those door panels. I picked up some Gunk Upholstery cleaner on sale for $5! So I proceded to take that door carpet and scrub it.. the water comming off was just about black it was freaking nasty. But now it looks brand new! I got most of the other parts clean too so I will get it back together and take a pic(glue drying).

Today I did a quick clean of the interior and wiped down the back(since its the cleanest) I figured I will start there and work my way up and leave the floor till last so I don't stomp all over it. I read that using big pieces is the best as it has more contact, ect. which is fine but DAMN it is hard to get it into place when there are cables and such hanging about. This stuff is sticky as hell, once it's on there good luck getting it off.. so gotta make sure placement is right the first time!

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/bquiet07.jpg

First bit started.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/bquiet08.jpg

Gonna take me a while but going to be worth it.

After taking out all the factory mat I went for a drive to see how it is, and holy shit is it loud! With all the panels and everything gone there is nothing to stop all that noise comming in.. can't even hear myself think haha. So Cheese I hope you know what your getting into, because it's going to be a loud drone when you drive.

Oh and the roller I got with the bquiet is pretty junky so I think I will have to pick up another one, more to come.

Wow almost a month and no update?!! Well I haven't been doing nothing thats forsure. I have been hording all sorts of things. Hmm where to start.. well I have been slowly getting the bquiet down, pretty much all the back is done for now. I want to wait to do the floor till after I get the exhaust done.

Parts I picked up new/used:

Heater hose in various sizes to replace the junky ones
New rad hoses
New fuel filter
All new injector seals
New alternator belt
New muffler/cat
All new wheel bearings, got those front balljoints installed too(spindle)
Master cylinder
2x O2 sensors
Temp sensor
Gray rear panels
Teg seats(hopefully make them work)
Prelude upper arms(balljoints comming in tomorrow)
Gas tank!!!
Crap load of paint and other stuff... probably more but I dont remember it all.

Got those DC bar mounts off at the powder coater right now, waiting on those. Ahhh lots of stuff done and not much on the car haha(yet!)

Heres my modified underpulley, damn the thing weighs half of what it used to! Much nicer!

Got these guys back a week or so ago, im blasting them tomorrow then getting them painted up. They will be going on there before the motor because my balljoints are shitty and eating my new tires quick. So after that I will get the hardlines made and put them on asap.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/brakes5.jpg

Gas tank!!
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/gastank01.jpg

Well I found out at PnP that they punch all the gas tanks so I thought I was pretty much screwed, however Gemini had his old DD kickin around waiting to go to PnP so I was lucky enough to get that and its in great shape to boot. (Thank you again man I owe ya a drink!)

Oh and that windshield is from the coupe, I will get that put in sometime soon. The parts car was scraped up onto a flat deck and gone from my eyes in like 10 minutes haha. Sad to see her go but its for the best.

I got that spindle primered up today after work, I'll have some pics later on!

Used a mixture of glass, with I think aluminum oxide? and some slag haha. Compresser couldn't really keep up so it took a long ass while, I should get most of the rest done tomorrow since I have it off! Post some pics tomorrow of goodies too.

Lookin good as usual roach, thats the same muffler I just had put back on my accord along with 2.25" piping, and a magnaflow resonator, I LOOOVE the sound, but without a cat now it is a bit loud lol.

Also, I see you're going grey with the interior, I just picked up a grey armrest at picknpull on the weekend, and can get the rest of the centre console if need be... ive already got 2 of them though, if you want one let me know...?

Didn't see your reply till now Hash, I've got all the grey stuff from the coupe(which has the armrest/cupholders). However the rear panels don't work so I had to grab some, figured it would be easier to pay 20$ for now instead of paint them only for them not to match.. I'll figure something out.

Anyway, been busy blasting and painting.

All these parts have been blasted, cleaned to hell, primered and painted.

Also ordered the last pieces of my exhaust(some bends), also ordered a 180 to make a CAI with. I will have to get a filter for that next, I also have some suspension on order too so that should be here in a few weeks.

Thanks for the reply carotman, I will have to look into the tank thing. I haven't been able to get the fuel pump out due to the nuts being rusted and just stripping.. I will look into the matching harness problem too.

Yea OBD1 will be in the future sometime..

Anyway got an update, finally! I have been waiting what seems forever to get these babies on.

The other day me and my bud got the lines made, hubs in and the rear hubs on too. Turned out great and today I just had to pick up a few little things before I could start. So this is where I got today. Everything came off pretty good, much better then that parts se-i(god that was a nightmare).

Jacked up, cleaned out the garage enough so I could get the hatch in.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/brakes17.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/brakes16.jpg

Looks pretty hot!!, I don't like how that mid line is so short, but it should be okay once it's back on the ground(and lowered I'd imagine would help more too).. if not I will have to get some made. Started on the left rear, and the shock bolt seems to have snapped in half and I can't get the mofo out.. I will keep trying tomorrow but would rather not deal with it.

Can't wait to get rid of that crap ass suspension and get the new stuff on, hopefully it will come in this week so I can put it on while its off the road. I have some other things on order(cai filter, and shift bushings), should be here in a few weeks in time for the engine swap.

Oh and the one thing I overlooked.. the right side ebrake cable has a major gash in it that someone long ago taped up. Resulting in a seized cable.. great! So I have to order one tomorrow.. the one thing I don't replace screws me over haha.

Well today I had started early to try and sort out that left rear spindle, I got everything swaped over/put on except the shock. The one that came off, well the bushing sleeve is rusted to the bolt... so I couldn't get it out. So a quick run to pick n pull I managed to find a decent one(its temp anyway for another week or two), so I got that in and just about everything else. Just have to get some crush washers for the lines, stick up the pads, put those in and start the front.

I also ordered a pass rear cable from honda.. $90 later it will be here tomorrow morning so I can finish up with the rear. I also caved and ordered front and rear st sway bars! So my suspension is going to be tight shit when I'm done! haha. I will get some pics tomorrow when I finish up the rear.

Well today was a good day!

My friend was nice enough to drive me to pnp to grab some other misc stuff. I picked up the rear caliper covers, sanded em down quick and gave them a shot of paint! I also picked up the rest of the gray panels off the hatch so that's awesome. The best part of all is that I scored some lude seats!!! They are MINT and only cost me $34!!!! How friggin awesome is that!

Here's that problem with the bolt I was talking about.

Well I had to wait on the left balljoint before I could go any further and that came in late today so I just finished up a bit ago. Got all that in there, everything torqued down, ect. Pulled her out and bled, and bled, and bled some more.

Heres the se-i booster, and mc I grabbed off a pnp car all cleaned up.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/brakes28.jpg

Well I took her out for a spin, it brakes nice. I was only able to lock up the right rear, so a little more tweaking. Also have to adjust the e-brake since I didn't get around to it. I also think the front left rotor is warped(off the se-i, never drove on it before), but it will have to do till I can save for some brembo's or I will get it turned sometime.

Other then that it feels great! Looks nice too, lovin the gold.. I just hope it holds up for a bit. So now I actually have a mod, all se-i brakes, with ss lines, new wheel bearings all around, new rear bushings, new lude control arms(bushings/balljoint), front lower balljoint, and soon I will get my tierod's and tierod ends done. Now just waiting on exhaust to get in so I can get that done.. think I will clean up some plastics in the meantime, enjoy :D

did that rear bar come with the endlinks you have? ..or did you have to pick those up separately?

I'm going to wager a guess to say that you'll end up going back to the SE-i front bar. ...with a FWD (in an ultra-performance setup) the tendency it to tighten the snot out of the rear end (kudos on that rear bar) and keep the front fairly loose.

Then again, it's just a matter of opinion too.

My hat goes off to you for such an incredibly clean job you're doing on this. I know I've said it before, but it's worth repeating. This work is truly top-notch, and the attention to detail dwarfs anything else I have seen on anyone elses car on this site (maybe except only Dennis' hatch).

Once this thing is done, I may have to make a trip to Canada just to see the damn thing.

As for your skunk's, which application are those originally built for? Any idea on what the damper valving, and spring rates are on those? Anymore pics of them?

A18A

geezus that looks nice!

Thanks mark, I knew you would have something to say!

The sway bars came with everything needed, as you can sorta see in the picture with the baggies. I did NOT buy anything seperate, it all came in the one big box. I will see how the front feels, I'm just stoked to drive at this point so any testing will have to happen later, haha.

As for the skunks(90-93 teg) they are stiff! I only have the rears on right now, I had to put pieces together from both the accord and skunk to make it work. The fronts, so far I have had to cut off about 1/8 of the pinch fork(top) so that the bolt would line up properly. But it's too long and I need to do the top hat mod to get em to work(no vehicle is hard to run around and get things, I will pick up the bolts and stuff soon then get it all working). As for the rates the paper says springs are front "8kg/mm spring rate" and the rear is 6kg/mm spring rate" as for the damper I haven't found any numbers, all I have seen is "non-adjustable precision valving" so my best guess is that they are matched up to work well with the springs. Haven't been able to drive on them yet as I pretty much was off the road when I put them on.

Anyway, once I get them all installed and what-not I should pull them out and show you guys what I did to make them work. As for today I got a bunch of the engine stuff swapped over, worked on the harness some more, and layed b-quiet on the trunk floor(so all thats left is the rest of the floor and driver's door).

Thanks for the props, I think we will have to have a half way meet when you get those carbs on :D

Well its close but it's just not the same.

I tried make it work but the ball is too big and wont fit into the housing where it's suppost to sit. I also got poly shift bushings installed. Tranny off the old engine and now I have to get it on the new one and plop it in.

Looking good! I noticed you don't have the rear splash guards on the rotors. I'd get some as I've heard that if water gets(puddle) on them you will lose braking power.

I would have of. However a call to the dealer revealed that they are discontinued and did not have any.. also if I where to do it now I would have to take the hubs back out and that is something I do NOT want to do. I will have to live with it how it is, I don't imagine it will make a huge difference anyway.

Everything is in and connected, fueled up, coolant in and oil. I couldn't get the tranny filler bolt off though.. broke one ratchet and then the next try resulted in a rounded head which I am rather pissed about.

I double checked everything and connected the battery. Go to crank over and the chime comes on but nothing else happens. So I was like hmm, I then changed out the main relay to another one I picked up. After I put that in(that was a biznatch) I turned the key and everything looks normal(shows the doors open, oil lights on, engine lights on?) and when I turn the key nothing happens, no fuel pump or anything is going and there is no indication of the starter wanting to go.

Ideas? I double checked all the fuses and they are fine. I double checked all the connections and everything looks good. There are no lights flashing on the ecu at any point of the key being turned. I thought I had everything I need to be hooked up but maybe I am missing something. All the lights work and everything but no fuel or crank.

Oh and the battery is fine.

The one on mine is broken somewhere in the wire loom. I just ran a new wire from the ignition to the starter. Easy way to check this wire if it is connected is to get a multimeter, and have someone put the key into the start position. While in that position, that signal wire should get 12 volts. If not, then you need to check if your wire is broken somewhere or if the ignition switch is at fault.

Well boys and girls, children of all ages.

I have been busy with the hatch for the past week and a couple of days. After MUCH prodding around with the tester and other tools I found the source of the problem...

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/clutchsensor.jpg

This little bitch. I never had one before(could start car without clutch engaged because there was no sensor) and so I didnt think of it at all.. except for what the hell is this? And theres nothing to connect it too....... so I was at the JY grabbing some main relays(thought maybe this might be the problem) while looting a 89 coupe 5spd, and saw this little bugger and was like OHHH!

So after that I jumped it and it turned over... with renewed vigor I proceeded to punch away.

After much more poking and adjusting many small things I got it started. YEEEEEHAAAAAAA! I was very excited!

But even then after getting everything on(fenders, bumper/lip, ect.) I couldn't go anywhere because of that tranny filler bolt whore. I purchased a "bolt extractor" kit which really didn't do anything because it's a tough bolt to get to. Anyway I was pissed and just decided to take the punch and hammer to it, after a while I got it! Which was great so I filled it up and put the new bolt/washer in.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/trannybolt.jpg

I also had time to do the seats, with this helpful thread from Bones(thank you). http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65750&highlight=prelude+seats

However, I don't know if the mounting is different for the 86-87, 88-89 because this does not line up.. and I'm not sure if I can make it work.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/seats03.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/seats04.jpg

The other 3 line up and are bolted in, which is fine and its pretty solid but I would like to make this work sometime.

Well I have been having issues with the idle/timing. I set the timing and idle and it seems to be fine but it somewhat fluctuates, nothing major I have noticed yet. However I have a loping idle that I can't seem to get rid of. The coolant is bled, I just replaced the TW Sensor and it didn't do anything to help with that.

OUCH!
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/tws.jpg

I'm also getting code 12(EGR), with the CEL on. I was looking up some threads, and this is either because my egr valve isn't work or it realizes that there is no flow(plate covering it up).. any ideas on what to do?

Also I have been playing with the timing because there is stutter/hesitation in accelerating from idle to around 2k, the more I advance it it seemed to be better but it's still doing it.. ideas? But as soon as it smooths out holy shit does it pull away! DAMN! Throw me back in my seat and hang on! haha. So yea, it took a ton of little things to get here and everything is pretty much falling back in place. I'm waiting for another 50sq of b-quiet so that I can do the floor and lay the carpet back on and get the rest of the interior assembled. Also have some other goodies on the way.

Basically now I'm just breaking it in, constantly watching it checking everything, tightening nuts and bolts and whatnot everywhere! I need to tune this baby in and this lopy idle is a pain in the ass, could it be the IACV? Not sure about the stuttering..

roodoo, the cam gear is at stock and tightened, it hasn't moved at all. I fully advanced the distributer and was doing some good pulls on the highway(2k-4k,2k-5k in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th) and it will hesitate(its not really a bog) usually at idle to 2500. Around there, maybe a little bit more in each gear due to them being longer. I don't know, I'm going to play around with it more today. Is the code 12 giving me the idle issue? or even this hesitation? I don't see why but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the props! Hopefully this delievery guy will get here monday so I can get everything back in!

Im not sure what all you have done without reading thru the whole thread, which I will do in a little while. It kinda sounds like electronic timing issue which involves the MAP sensor , TPS, IAT, and CT sensors. All of those will keep the tip in timing retarded until they like the conditions.
If you have an advancing timing light you can log your timing at a range of rpms to see if you are getting proper advance. If not you can still use a regulart timing light and kind of make a determination if it is advancing at all up to 2500 rpm. Just watch the timing mark with the light, it should move on past your idle setting when you gas it.

Well it's time for an update.

So far I have driven 160km and everything is pretty good, I need an alignment though. A couple minor leaks but nothing a couple washers wont fix(except for that one tranny seal.. rebuild in the future anyhow).

Got the last 50sq of B-Quiet in, I doubled up the whole floor and pretty much used the whole thing(probably like 6ft left or so) so the whole car took 150sq.

Also the rear seat panels from the 86 hatch I grabbed are different from the 87 ones.. who would of though. It's so minor but the top part of the panel is different for where the seatbelt goes in, anyway.. I couldn't get them in so I had to put back in the old ones :( so im rockin half black and half maroon.

Finally just saw this post.

I just have a regular timing light, and when I gas it it moves. I set the timing back to normal and then I advanced my cam gear 1 degree. So far its better then it was, it doesn't totally bog/stutter down anymore but it still has a bit of a weird stutter/hesitation(slight) but sometimes its so little.. just not smooth at all. I still have this rolling idle and it's aggrivating me.. I need to get it fixed. Oh and the CEL pops on pretty much after it gets warm, around 10-15mins of driving. I'm not sure if makes a difference, I haven't really noticed too much yet. I also only have 200km on it and it seems to get better the more I drive it.. still some tweaking to do forsure.

Thanks very much! Those are the only 2 maroon plastics, the one behind the doors, the rest is grey(a bit lighter then the rest but works) and the seat of course.

The UPS box for the 50sq says 16lbs, so 48lbs total(given that ups is accurate), however I took out all the stock stuff which weighed a good bit.. I would say at least half that anyway. It added a couple pounds, I don't think it's a big deal. The cab sounds great and the music is better, I can't hear any road noise but my exhaust is still pretty loud and it reverberates quite a bit which can be annoying at higher rpm's.

As for the wire holder, I don't know what sizes it can hold but I will take a picture. It was a bit of a squeeze to get those in there so don't hold your breath.

The brake was the easy one.. drill two holes and your done. The gas was the real cock, I only got the top screw through because you can't take the pad off, the bottom screw I just drilled a whole put some puddy in the whole and jammed a screw in there. Should hold up for a bit.. if not I will have to drill right through the damn thing or just take it off and do it that way.

Wow another great buildup thread I just got in on.

I love the black interior!! Reminds me of my 96 GSR Integra, it was black on black and black inside too lol.

Your car has turned out amazing. I cant imagine how nice it would all come together with a new paintjob and some "cleaning up" or, removing trim and smoothing out the body would make it look. Now that I got me a parts car, Im soon to get back into my project. Unfortunately its so late in the year I'll only get a little done before it gets too cold to work out there for a while. My house is only 11 years old, but the cheap bastards that built it did not put insulation in the walls of the garage. So, it's frigging freezing out there in the winter, and it's an oven in the summer. I'm tempted to rip out the sheetrock, and totally re-do my garage this spring if work kicks back up and I get some more OT checks next year.

Kudos on an awesome build!!!!

Well in lue of the new year and this being overdue I though I would make my mod list for my garage space, which I should be getting soon.

:edit:

I deleted the list and put it into my "garage" page, here's the link for that instead.

my garage page (http://www.3geez.com/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=96)

:edit:

I think thats all for now, probably edit it later on heh. Just went through the thread again and damn, I want to get started right away on getting this thing running good and some more mods!

Thanks for the comments guys.

I also had time to do the seats, with this helpful thread from Bones(thank you). http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65750&highlight=prelude+seats

However, I don't know if the mounting is different for the 86-87, 88-89 because this does not line up.. and I'm not sure if I can make it work.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/seats03.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/roach_cato/seats04.jpg

The other 3 line up and are bolted in, which is fine and its pretty solid but I would like to make this work sometime.

I had the same issue when I installed my seats as well. I just had to put some "grunt" on it. That's why I put in the "helpfull tip" at the bottom. :naughty:

Helpfull tip: bolt down the seat slider next to the door first. If ya gotta do any pushing on the sliders to line up the bolt holes, it's easier to push on the seat from outside the car, than it is to push on a slide bracket from inside the car toward the doors.

After I did mine, I checked the seat movement to see if they got bound up, or anything like that, but there are no problems with mine as far as I've been able to tell.

I did both front bolts first (left 'em loose), then the rear bolt next to the door (loose as well), then used my foot/leg to shove the last seat rail into position while my son put the bolt on. Then just tightened everything up.

On second look, your seat rails seem to be wider at the rear than the stock seat rail positions ... mine were narrower and the inner rail had to be shoved toward the tunnel. Perhaps there is some leeway dependant on how ya bolt the tracks to the bottom of the seat that would make up for this difference.

Thanks Hash I want to see some new pics from you sometime eh!

Bones, I think your tip worked for you because from what I can tell that rear mount point is different in my 87 vs the 89 parts car. Thus you were able to squeeze it on there, I think I might just fab something up so that I can get the bolt in without any extra stress on the rail.. I don't mind being stuck with these seats!

Awesome project! Have you driven the car after installing all of that b-quiet stuff?
I'm curious how much sound deadening it will actually create.
I have that same rear muffler, is yours annoyingly loud as well?

It's funny, the color that you had your valve cover turn out by mistake is a lot like the color that I was considering to use for my brake calipers.
Do you think it will be possible to reproduce that color outcome if I get VHT gold caliper paint and VHT clearcoat or was it some crazy coincidence that wont be possible to do again?

Yes, I put over 1000km before I parked it in november(I think). As for the b-quiet, yes it did a lot! Like you say though the muffler is loud. You can definitely tell the difference from before putting it in and after. The only thing is that the exhaust is loud at higher rpm's(3k+) and is sort of like a drone.. I can deal with it but I honestly thought it would get rid of it. Then again that exhaust is really loud so I can see why.

About the paint.. oy oy well, it was a crazy turnout but I want to try to redo it again. Due to the nature of the circumstances I cannot say it would be possible to get the exact same turnout but you could get something close with some trial and error I bet. Once I try it again I will post up what I come up with, with that spare valve cover.. although I have a diff paint job in mind this time.

Thanks 86ccord!

Heya, well yesterday and today my friend and I tackled the inner tie rods and outer aswell. It was a two part due to the way the left side was in there.. had to lower the rack a bit(thank god for manual :D) and bend a wrench so that it would fit in there and undo it. All that done, just have to get it aligned now and I'm good to go. Also today, installed my recently recieved pacesetter short throw shiter woooo. While that was out I painted the bare pipe of my exhaust black, just to somewhat slow the rusting process. Hmm what else.. some other things to tackle and clean, found mice poops on my nice VC and other various places! grrr! So I have to clean all that up, vaccum and fresh wash so everything will be nice and clean. Sorry no pics I honestly don't know where the camera is... I think my bud has one so I can snap some tomorrow!

everytime I see this car, I get a pit in my stomach because of how it reminds me so much of my car when it was in it's glory. I've said it a millions times before and I'll say it again... ...to all of those interested in restoring or tastefully upgrading their car and keeping it clean, this hatch is the poster-child for that goal.

Very very very nice. (Don't worry, I'm still working on that little secret I've been talking to you about. I expect to have an answer soon enough. Just take it easy on the streets with it for the time being and you'll be just fine.)

Thank you thank you, mark your too much.

Well, day 3 and still no pics(buddies is apparently off being repaired, bla) anyway. Got the exhaust back on, it leaks on the left side where the mani attaches to the dp and it's already tight as it will go. Crank seal appears to be leaking on the pulley side, the right axel seal leaks(damage from taking axel out). Oh the short shifter is in and wow, seriously almost don't have to move the damn thing to shift so sweet! Had to bang out the heatshield because I pretty much maxed the adjustment out and it was hitting the top. Got the rims back on, ready for alignment sometime soon when money appears.

Oh and to take the cake, I fired her up.. only took a couple cranks and bam! I was pissed about that lopey idle so as it was warming up I cracked open the bleeder and it came out constant. Oh wait then I was like oh I don't know if the heaters open. So I open it and turn on the fan and hear all this shit blowing about in the ducts and it reaks of mice shit and piss and possibly even some dead. I don't know if the idle is fixed but I am right fucking pissed about having to pull the dash and heater out to clean it AGAIN because of some god damn mice. ah shit I just wanted to drive.

The shop is in a real shit show and I need to organize it. Glad to hear your keeping on it mark, Im still waiting so let me know.

Well after having to take out the dash(ugh), there was a big nest above the blower.... so I washed everything and vaccumed and all that crap. It's all back together but I can sorta still smell it on some settings, I hope it will just air out and go away because I hate the fact that my new cabin was defiled.

Anyway got some pics! (these were snapped from video, a how-to video that should be up sometime and I will add the link)

Have to jack it up from the side first to get the big jack in the front due to the lip.
