With the power steering disconnected, and the fluid drained, is there going to be any damage to the rack due to the lack of lubrication circulating? Or nothing wrong will happen and no addition wear will occur anywhere in the steering system. This has always bothered me.

if you disconnect the lines, fill the rack with powersteering fluid and plug the lines.

it's been 4 years and i haven't had problems... just cap off the hardlines when you remove the hoses.

if you fill the rack again the fluid will squirt right out... just drive around for a while and let the fluid thats in there come out if it needs too so you wont have excess pressure when you cap it off.

make sure you take off the P/S belt...running the pump dry like that will cause problems, causing your pump to start making noises, and they won't be good noises, either.
