i thought i would post some progress on the install of the new audiovox ax 510 car alarm i'm putting in,for security reasons i'm not going to post some info, but other stuff i will
the harness for the shock sensor and the special dual color LED wasn't long enough so i ended up extending it. i don't believe in the slap it behind the dash with zip ties garbage.
if you are going to put in an alarm this complex,it takes time. everything in the new harness is soldered and heatshrunk. i extended the harness and added the connectors

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/moultriemanicmechanic/S4020194.jpg
one thing i hate about alarm installs is they always have a hole in the dash that looks like crap, for the LED. i was using a factory nissan security indicator, which worked well, but the new LED is a special dual color one. the factory indicator had an led that snapped into the back of it with a plug. this required me to make an aluminum adaptor, that epoxied into the housing.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/moultriemanicmechanic/S4020197.jpg
i'm adding power door locks to this setup, so i modified a rear drivers side power window switch. it should fit nicely under the edge of the armrest.

ok a new project part of this, i am getting rid of he ugly levers on the floor in front of the drivers seat, so i need a solonoid for the hatch and the gas door,i already have the hatch one in,and it's been in for some time. i finally found a solonoid at the yard after searching about 50 cars. it was on an old buick granny mobile.
solonoid after being modified

and the new switch location in the glovebox, this is the box i found at the yard,it's going to be painted black to match the new dash color. it's also going to be motorized,so the latch will disappear. no more latch.

yea i just wired the system for the power door locks,i decided to just put the switch in the center console, saves me running a lot of wires into the doors. plus i can mount the relays to the relay board with the rest of them. all i need to do is run two wires out, this runs to both actuators, and two wires from the switch. the other wire at the switch grounds. i wish it would quit raining so i could do something more then bench wiring.

the gas door solonoid is in,i haven't tested it electrically yet, because the battery is out for the moment, but if i pull the solonoid it works mechanically. i figure if it can open the trunk on that big granny mobile, it can pop the gas door on the hatch. i figured out what to do with where the original hatch cable connects, after i remove it,i will get another solonoid to put in the hatch to pull on where the cable used to attach.i already have one to open the hatch by remote. i will put a hidden switch somewhere on the body and use 8 duracell batteries to operate that solonoid. thats my backup in case the battery is ever dead. completly independent of the cars electrical system. that way i can get rid of the hatch lock completly. and have no locks on the body anywhere. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd158/lostforawhile/S4020216.jpg

lostforawhile
01-28-2008, 03:08 PM
well i didn't get to test the solonoid, but i did make a really nice aluminum spacer for the window switch i modified for the door locks, too bad my camera batteries are dead. i'm going to put it on the flat part of the console where the e brake is. i needed to move it up so the wiring would clear. i had figured out all the measurements before hand and was doing it on the DRO, for some reason all my measurements were off,and i ended up fucking it all up. so i said screw it and fixed it by hand. now the switch fits in perfectly. go figure.sometimes you have to say screw the digital shit and use the force.

i posted this because it's a good way to join a number of high current connections with large wires, you simply crimp ring connectors on the wires, put the proper size bolt through the ring connectors, and tighten it down. just make sure to use a nylock bolt because it needs to remain tight. after this tape it well with quality tape, tape in one direction, then the other. now you have a secure high current connection.

yay!! i just figured out how to make the lights pop up my modifying a switch internally. i need to get a small double pole double throw electronic relay. basically you have to modify the small circuit board inside of a switch you have to cut one trace then solder wires to it and wire that through one set of normally closed contacts then you solder wire to two other contacts and solder those to contacts that close when the relay is energized. so when you power the relay the system thinks the manual switch is closed. the tiny lever switch in the switch is a single pole double throw switch.

well it's 2:30 am just got the bumper back on,everything fit nicely in there. one turn signal in,the other still needs to have a plug soldered to it. it's a bitch lining up those pieces that the bumper slides into holding it yourself. mine weighs a bit too with the lights.
wanted to bring up a point on one of these pics, you have to watch the details when you wire, notice the split piece of air line over the wires, if i hadn't put that there, eventually the sharp edge of the blower air intake would have shorted them out. thats the kind of stuff you need to look out for, think, where are my wires going to run? are they going to get pinched? or burned? or caught in something moving? think how the oem wiring is run, take your time and don't take shortcuts. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd158/lostforawhile/S4020440.jpg

ok update,i have the major harnesses built, and ready to go in the car,so it's just a matter of putting them in and connecting everything together. just haven't had much time. i also ran across a vintage pioneer eq/amp today, so it's going under the glovebox, and getting used for the voice module amplification. too cool not to put in the car, haven't seen one in years. also found a vintage realistic stereo power booster. and a shaft radio, which turned out to be an eight track deck. those go in my vintage audio stuff. all the main harness pieces are wrapped up and have multi pin molex plugs,so when the harnesses are in everything just plugs up. all the loose wires at the ends, will be trimmed and soldered to the other harnesses. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd158/lostforawhile/S4020019.jpg

well i started it this year actually just been a lot of shit going on is all. finally getting some of it done. it's not just the alarm wiring,i'm working on a bunch of different projects at once here. a lot of them are done and in the house, just waiting for installation. some stuff no one has even seen yet. it's really hard to get out there and work when it's close to a hundred in the shade and the humidity is almost a hundred percent. been that way for months stuff just sitting on my bench is mildewing for crying out loud. the moisture just sits and you can't get rid of it. I did find what kills the mildew that is forming on my plastic, plain old rubbing alcohol. found that on the mcquires site. you can wipe it off but it comes back, but the rubbing alcohol kills it. plus it cleans plastic well. I mean i have most of the interior out, it looks a mess but it all has to be done in a certain sequence. this harness goes back in then the center console area then the glovebox etc. I also ran all the heavy 2 gauge wires for the battery stuff. also i just found someone local that carries the 200 amp main breaker for the battery. I would never think look in a motor home supply store for high amperage 12 volt breaker assemblies. and Buss brand too. at the moment broke too, because of bullshit beyond my control so it's also waiting on money.

lostforawhile
09-03-2008, 07:58 PM
I've actually done a lot to it, even in the heat, have the voice module in and tested, ran all new wiring for the amps and the crossover networks as well as the subs. everything in the back end of the car has been rewired, including new wiring for the monitor. I also ran a ton of wiring under the hood for the siren the oil cooler blower the fog lights turn signals etc. there are twenty relays crammed neatly into the corner under the bumper around the blower motor. I also got all the nice work done on the valve cover and got it installed. as well as the spark plug wire holders and new wires in. so i've been really busy actually. oh don't forget i installed my aircraft sidemarker lights.

sorry for the long overdue update, just built the anti carjacking, fuel pump disable, lighting circuit isolator and a lighting disable circuit for the voice module, keeps betty from yackking every time the alarm flashes the parking lamps. I don't mind putting it up here, even if someone knows where it is, there is no way in hell they will understand my logic or how it actually works, and if they cut the wires, well they are screwed. I won't go into any more details then that. I don't think in normal logic when it comes to alarm stuff, I do things wacky and backwards which no one who is sane will figure out. I listen to a lot of Hendrix when i'm wiring shit too, I make diagrams of which wire goes to what in the car but no circuit diagrams, just figure it out as I go.

[QUOTE=lostforawhile;1009024] I listen to a lot of Hendrix when i'm wiring shit too, I make diagrams of which wire goes to what in the car but no circuit diagrams, just figure it out as I go.
[QUOTE]

As long as you draw inspiration from listening to Hendrix only it is OK. I hope you would not get inspiration the "Hendrix way"
I came across a very, very "funny" article yesterday... Someone came with the idea that those on unemployment in GA may have to undergo random drug testing...

http://www.ajc.com/news/law-would-require-drug-376097.html

Is there any way to get those clowns to do something that REALLY matters???

BAck to more serious stuff, I like that "backwards logic" thing...
Keep it up, and I hope you won't get gills out of all the rain we are seeing around here... I'm rusting already!

I don't mind the test but I have to pay for it out of my pocket? it's bad enough they are trying to punish me for drawing unemployment by cutting off my wifes disability and medicaid. I couldn't build this kind of stuff if i was under the influence of any kind of chemical, you have to use your brain.

Your work is always on another level Lost. Great to see you out working on the car again. Keep it up, especially when you aren't working. It will keep you from going completely nuts.

I know that you need your mind 101% to do whatever is creative or working on a problem; those who draft those things do not know it. It seems to me that they don't need to use their minds... or maybe there is not a mind up there.

What drives me nuts is the underlying logic behind all of this -those on public assistance have something faulty with them. Making anecdotal inference out of a few cases may be good at election time but as policy guidance is crap. :blah:
How come one explains the epidemic outburst of people on public assistance programs during the last year or so? How does one explain the pandemic scope of this -unemployment on the rise in so many different places?

It's good to see that you got your motivation back. :)

Keeping yourself busy is goodthanks, they treat me like i did something wrong because i'm laid off, I've been with this company ten years. the logic i was told was to make me find another job, the issue is i'm on emergency unemployment, i have a callback, so why am i required to find a different job when there are none?
