I'm having some troubles with my 87 LXI Auto. Anytime the RPM's are above 3K I get this really bad rattle/buzz sound. It doesn't matter if the car is in P or in gear. Now I know it's prob time for a rebuild but I'm not ready for it. Right now I just want to bandaid it. I can't pinpoint where the general location of the noise as it takes up the whole engine compartment. Does anyone know what it could be?

mite just be a resonance thing.
my car makes the whole garage vibrate when i hold certain revs.
ha sit always done it or have you changed something resently, like the exhaust or inlet

I noticed it right after I change the oil. I don't hear it before that. Over the last few months it has become louder. Now the whole car doesn't shake or rattle, it sounds like a rattle with a buzz to it.

its likely something has been missed when the lube was done.
did you do it or a workshop?

Sounds like a heat shield.

if it was dohc i would say the cambelt is loose. ivre had that happen and the bit of belt between the pulleys flips up and hits the cam cover

I had a similar problem on my '76 Accord. Turned out that my air cleaner cover nut wasn't tight. It would resonate at a certain rpm range making a buzzing sound.

I wish all repairs were that easy... :hs:
