Today I started building an a20 manifold, which I've been planning on doing for a while. This one will obviously be a "sidewinder" style, with the turbo off to the side, (hopefully) clearing the a/c, p/s, and front motor mount, and allowing at least a 3" downpipe. I'm still waiting for my head flange from weirtech, so this is all I can really do so far.

I hope my flange gets here soon..it should have already arrrived.
I don't know how much I'll ask for it, I'll have to add up the hours and cost of materials..but I'm guessing 450-500, something around there.

I don't think the wife would let me spend our tax return on this. She would kill me or kick me in the nuts!! Yikes, she would be furious.

Looks nice man! reminds me of mine.

Do you still have the a20 in your car? Definately keep the pics coming. Good work. :)

Fuck no, it's all about the vtec for me.. but this one goes out to the a20 guys though.
Here are some new pics. I like mine better.:) It's not done, still have to set up the wastegate.
What do you guys think?

Accordtheory

that's the idea, hopefully someone wants it.
I calculated my hours and materials, and I'll want about 600 for it. But it'll come with a lifetime guarantee. Anything goes wrong with it, it'll get fixed.

Accordtheory

Me too. The pics don't really do it justice either. I won't say it's a work of art, but it's the best thing I've built so far.
I want to put a 44mm tial v band wastegate flange on it, but I suspect more people would rather have the 38. I already have the 44 though, and it's a better setup anyway.

Looks good i was once considering a sidewinder when i saw Guaynabo89's but i would like to see how it performs.

MessyHonda

will it clear the spark plugs?

Accordtheory
02-22-2008, 11:21 AM
I don't have the a20 to check, but if the weirtech flange does, then it will. I assume the weirtech flange clears. That would be ridiculous if it didn't, and no one told him about it. I could get at my plugs no problem with my old sidewinder, and this one the tubes come out more straight from the head, so there is even more clearance.

Accordtheory
02-22-2008, 12:01 PM
here's a pic from sq is the squad, he bought 4 of weirtech's a20 flanges. Looks like spark plug access will be okay. If you really wanted more room, you could trim the flange a little, but I probably wouldn't.

Okay, so if anyone is interested in buying this manifold, let me know about what wastegate flange you want, and I'll set it up, (after I get paid, obviously)
This thing should functionally clear the p/s, a/c, and the front motor mount, while allowing a nice radius downpipe. But keep in mind, T3 frame turbos come in all different sizes, I can't guarantee anything here. Basically this requires a leap of faith by the customer, and the willingness to modify your car freely. Which you already have if you're building a turbosystem anyway, you know what you're getting into.. You'll have to move things around to make everything fit, but this manifold will give you the potential to have the best possible setup, power without compromise. At a minimum, you'll have to modify your upper radiator hose, install slim fans, move and/or heat wrap the upper power steering hose and a/c rubber lines, and do a few other things, none of which are particularly difficult. The turbo should also be braced to the tranny/block. (simple bracket/rod) Although this isn't absolutely critical, I recommend it for reliability. This manifold, if sold from a commercial vendor, would be very expensive, probably at least $900. I figure I'll have about 23hrs in it by the time I'm done, so with a $600 price, I'm making about 1/4 the hourly wage of most auto shops, for highly skilled labor. So don't try to offer me less than 600.
Some guy on h-t really pissed me off today, offering me 200 for my last manifold. That would be $6.66 an hour.:gun:

BITESIZE

I think $20 an hour would be reasonable. :)

Accordtheory

It actually comes out to like $18.5. maybe I should raise the price..

here's what I'm currently thinking about doing. If I can find a 3g in a junkyard anywhere local, I'll take the manifold and my huge ass holset turbo and see what it takes to make it fit, and snap some pics of it.
It might be a little difficult to find a 3g though, stupid south dakota. Everyone drives domestic vehicles out here.

Accordtheory
02-27-2008, 10:40 AM
it looks there are no 3g accords in junk yards within 100 miles of me in any direction. Fuck south dakota.

how much cost me to make the flange only

Accordtheory
02-28-2008, 09:47 AM
The head flange is from weirtech. It's $20+ shipping, for me it came out to $42. I don't know if he has any more though. I don't know his contact info off the top of my head either, I IMd him on honda-tech. You'll be able to find him in about 10 seconds with a search though.
But I don't even know why I just gave you this info, we both know you're not going to build anything anyway. :)

If it were me, I would. Just think about how many people will see it. Honestly, since it's your first try, I would lower your price.

hey hey we might want to talk about this manifold man. i may be inclined to take it off your hands. :)

or for the price would you want to build me a different one that doesn't matter if it clears things (i have civic rad, no PS, no AC. :)) A nice topmount does seem sweet!

EDIT.

actually after looking at it more, i definitely don't want this one, but might be inclined to have you build me something more suited for my setup. :) if you have aim or msn add me and we can discuss it further.

I thought everyone already knew about bmc..maybe I'll post up a few links to threads where everyone posting hates bmc, jg-fab, whatever, and will never do business with them again. I know I certainly wouldn't buy from a guy who could leave you hanging for months, or worse..

I can't sell it on egay unless I have installed pics. I'm just about out of options as far as that goes, too. But without them, people just won't bid, or else I'll make $2/hr. Shit, on ebay, that place is so fucked up for sellers, I might Still make $2/hr.
And, my mind is made up, I'm not making less than $20/hr on this. If it doesn't sell, I don't care, it doesn't sell then. Oh well. Hold this thing in your hands and tell me it isn't worth $600+. (Assuming it fits what they have, of course. Buyer can't make it work, money back.) My last manifold I got all stressed about, and I kept dropping the price, until it sold for $250 + shipping, netting me $9/hr. Never again will I do that to myself. The dude who bought it was enthusiastic, happy, couldn't believe he got it for such a good deal. But he would have also been happy to have paid way more. He was actually looking at the manifold I compared it to, the lovefab one for $500 or whatever, and then saw mine for sale. He was happy with the 44mm gate, he was happy with the overall design. Compare that to the multiple assholes who kept trying to get me to knock the price down, talking shit, criticizing me and the product, trying to pay ssautochrome/xspower prices. Moral of the story is, disregard the assholes, wait for the right person, they'll eventually show up, and you'll get what you deserve.
Whatever. I don't even know what to do with it right now. So it's just going to chill until I do.

yeah its a beautiful manifold, and looks very well crafted. all things considered I do not the price is unfair. yes its more than most people (on this forum) want to or would be able to afford. but hell, its a good deal and you are not paying a dime for R&D. :) so unless you diy thats a good price. :)
