Fresh 3g accord owner from Finland here.

Some personal stuff to start off with:
I'm a 23 years old father of two, 2 years and 4 months old. And my knowledge about cars is limited at best (and the little I know is just in theory). However I'd like to change that.

And now to the car:
Bought an -89 4d sedan 2.0i 16v (b20a8) off my dad for 800€ a couple days ago. The car is probably originally imported from Germany, Austria or Switzerland, I think there was a sticker somewhere telling me to only use "blaufrei" gas... So finding parts for it here might not be all too easy.

There's some things I need to fix on it to get it through inspection in may.
It's got a hole below the back door on one side, and the pipe going from the exhaust manifold to the cat is leaking, it's been "fixed" 2 or 3 times so i think I need to find myself a new one. So if someone could tell me what other models, preferrably if any of the ones found in Finland (I think the a20a4's and a2's are the ones common here), have got the same pipes. I right now want to just get it through the inspection with as little cost as possible.

I still need to find out if I actually need to keep the cat on it or not, if I'm lucky it might not have been registered as having low emissions, and I could just toss it away.

Later on, if I have any money to spare I might do some upgrades. I'm thinking cold air intake and a new exhaust system. Any tips on those? And is there any place on-line that carries parts for these in europe? All the links I've seen around here are from the US.

I should probably change the oil too (both engine and transmission), what kind would be the best to use?

heh, talk to thegreatdane, he's from your neck of the woods. he'd know way more about the availability of parts in europe. i know here in america, they're fast becoming collectible relics. the pipes, i assume you mean the header downpipes that connect the primaries to the cat? if so, i don't think those will directly fit from an a20 car. if it's just the flex pipe, you can probably go and have that replaced. or, if you can weld, get some h22 headers and mod them to fit like thegreatdane did.

Ok, so it snowed last night so not too much to look at... And the car's all dirty anyway.

Here's the hole

The engine bay, pretty bad pic tho, and dirty as hell. I actually thought the cover was supposed to be black when I first looked at it... Then I noticed it's just a thick layer of shit =P
EDIT: After looking at it more closely, I think it might just be the paint that's starting to come off...

And the pipe

So I went to a couple parts stores today, mostly just to see what it would cost to get a new front pipe.

Well the guy at the first shop looked through two catalogs without finding the right one before giving up...

As I said earlier, mine's a b20a8 while the finnish models are a20a4's, a2's and the b20a2. And on them the exhaust manifold is 4-2-1, with the front pipe connecting the two pipes on the manifold, and mine's got a 4-1 manifold.

Off to the next place, where after a bit of looking through various catalogues they find the pipe! With a big fat "N/A" on it. So I just bought a new air filter for 28€ which feels like quite a rip-off when the last filter I bought (was for a -91 corolla tho, and we got more of those than people around here), I got at a supermarket for less than 10€. :thumbdn:

But as it's just the flex pipe that's busted, I'll probably just replace that... Gotta go crawling under the car to measure the damn thing tho, unless someone knows the measurements of it? As far as I know it's all stock. (metric please ;))

Took a better picture of the engine bay when I had replaced my air filter :)
It's still in need of a good cleaning, any good pointers on how to go about doing that? Probably won't get around to it until it starts getting warmer tho, and I guess I should probably clean the intake stuff then too.

Hey, thanks =)

Yeah, I hear the b20's are rare over at your side of the atlantic.

The a8 in mine seems to be almost one of a kind in Finland too altho the 16v model overall isn't all that uncommon, I'm pretty sure it's been imported from Switzerland now since that sticker I mentioned was in both french and german.
