transmission doesnt seem to shift into gears well

i checked out my car last night as i was working on it a bit, and i noticed that my shifter wasnt really shifting into gears properly. basically, if i pull it out of gear, it does go and stay in the neutral position, but it tends to stay between gears 1 and 2 instead of the typical 3-4 position. i have a feeling it might be the heatshield i installed back on the car since i can hear it rubbing up againest something, but i havent checked it out yet.


does anyone else have a short shifter installed and ran into this problem yet?

well, i took inbolted the heat shield that is nearest to the shifter, and i am able to shift it somewhat easier, but i still do feel some resistance as well. anyone know is its just the DC shifter i have, or the heatshield itself?
