Well, I had been on the search for a new 3g for a while now, having my wrecked se-i sitting in the garage sucks, and I needed to find a replacement, but wanted something with a good body.

After getting screwed over on one deal, flying out to Vancouver, and the idiot who I was supposed to buy the car from neglected to call me the night before when the alternator siezed up and the car had a couple other issues. I walked away from that deal pissed off, and flew back home.

Finally while browsing craigslist randomly one day, I found what looked like a really good car. 1988 ex-i, white, 5spd, 250,000kms, oem window visors, and the people had owned it since 1989.... Did a carproof report, never been in an accident, got more pictures... talked to the owners and decided to go for it. So saturday the 8th... I hopped on a plane to Abbotsford, got in a cab to Chilliwack (cab driver smelled really bad too! :thumbdn:) ... And after having a good look at the car, taking it for a spin... I decided to go for it. So, here she is:
Stopped off after about 3 hours or so of driving for some gas and food.

http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/2464/pic03yk0.jpg

Well, the drive was quite interesting.... Was raining pretty good when I picked up the car, then got nice and sunny for pics... Then I hit a bit more rain, followed by hail, then more rain, a little bit of snow... followed by nice clear weather when I hit Alberta. As you can see here, driving through the mountains, they got a lot of snow this winter...

And finally home safe and sound... Chillin in my mess of a garage.

Thanks guys... body is super clean... couple little dents that can be fixed by paintless dent repair, and 2 specs of rust one on front left fender, other under right door handle.

BTW, drive was about 950kms.... did it in about 8.5 hours only stopping twice to top up gas, and make a pit stop.

hahah no... don't have to get on a plane, but generally during winter I would rather fly over the mountains then drive through them. Besides, it saves a lot of time, and short flights like that don't cost much.

About time man!!!! congrats on the find!!! cant wait to see this project get under way!

Thanks cheese, neither can I. Car is parked for a bit, and hopefully I can get my school stuff under control this week and get to work this weekend, might snow anyways so it'll be a perfect excuse to stay inside and do work.

Well I have been slowly doing little things to the accord so far, such as new brakes, cleaning and detailing and started working on the interior swap. Don't have many pictures of that yet, but today these arrived at my front door :D :D :D ... Picked them up off a guy on G2IC and I'm super excited, one of the few sets of wheels I have always wanted.

Here they are at my door... fedex decided to just leave them sitting there didn't even knock or ring the door bell.
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/23/img0621vs3.jpg

Took them inside to open up.

Only thing I need now are some tires and my new suspension which I should be getting soon.

Holy crap an update~!!!

Hahaha, well I figure it is about time I update this thread some. As of about 5 weeks ago, I parked the accord due to chasing oil leaks which keep getting worse, and I don't feel like ending up stranded due to a screwed motor one of these days. So, I am driving my civic for now, and I have decided to begin work on the Accord.

Here is a pic from it's most recent photo session that I took in our lovely downtown Calgary.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3485/3843228580_7ac6fc73ee_b.jpg

Now, As you can see from the first page, my garage is much cleaner now. I have proper shelving, still need better lighting though, and a tool chest asap.

So here is how the accord sits, and I have started slowly today taking small pieces off the motor, removed the hood... but it is damn cold, and almost every plastic clip I touched broke, so I put a hold on things for today until it warms up a bit later this week... I will be getting a heater whenever I can afford it.

First task is to remove the motor and prepare the bay for my engine swap. I will be having a friend weld in my trans mount bracket, and another friend has volunteered himself to do a wire tuck on my engine bay as he is very good with wiring.

Then the car will be going for body work and a much needed paint job.

Now that I am going to be doing consistent work on the car, I will continue to update this thread.

Not sure on plans for the old motor right now. For the time being I will keep it kicking around in my garage.

yeah looking good...clean out that engine bay while you can

Will do. Probably going to have the bay re-sprayed while the motor is out, it could use it.

I really like your car hash. What motor you gonna put in...and no offense but do you plan on fixing your camber?

Probably going with a b20b/z with a b16 head and b16 transmissions. And yea, I plan on raising the car some to help with the camber, my front tires are almost worn out because of it after 2 summers of driving.

Love White Accord!! those wheels, Et+27 you say.. dont they scrape inside of the car?

No issues on the inside of the car at all... I did have to roll the rear fenders to prevent rubbing, even when the car was sitting higher than it is now, they rubbed in hard cornering.

No updates on the Accord right now, been working on getting a working stereo into the Civic this past week seeing as I drive it every day and not having proper tunes sucks!....

Well, I am sitting here thinking of going to sleep, but I'm pretty much wide awake, so I figured I would post up some of the goodies I have waiting around for the accord. Lots of the other bits are stashed in my piles in my basement, and as you can see it is a bit of a mess... So, those will be found only when they need to be hahaha.

So, to start it off, some of the stereo bits that will be going in... Alpine DVA-7996 & XM box were in the car already, now to come are Focal 165KRX2 component speakers, Steg K4.02 (This will run the 165KRX2 actively), Alpine PXA-H701 processor, and RUX-C700 Controller (i tracked down an older one and swapped mine with someone so all LED's match). Still to come: Steg K2.02 (sub amp) & Focal 21wx x2.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2747/4173261337_ff9c0ac833_b.jpg

Next, the all important b-swap parts. PRI mount kit, axles, rywire obd-0 to obd-1 harness, hasport hydro clutch converter and civic clutch MC (will try and make this setup work). Not pictured are the wiring harness, and shift linkage.

Now, some of the JDM & EDM goods. EDM taillights and rear fogs, JDM corners, JDM wing, EDM/JDM fogs.... I have power folding mirrors and digi climate controls kicking around somewhere too.

Now, we finally cleaned our garage out before winter hit... I think this basement is going to be my next project. Clean this up, organize my car parts and create a space where I can lock myself away and listen to music, chill on my computer, and generally be left alone... only space like that now in the house is my bedroom, which sucks.

Here is the mess now:
in that pile are many parts such as: sway bars, new carpet and floor mats, oem car cover, misc trim pieces for interior, etc....

Yup, I love my Focal. I had a set of Morel's in the accord last year, but didn't like them too much, so last summer I ran Focal 165VB, now those are going to civic duty, and I took advantage of my discount for the new ones before we all quit at my last job.

Never!!! I love my fogs! ahah. :gun:

I am hoping that by the time the roads are clear in the spring that I will have it up and going with pretty much everything. I do still need to get a motor, but I have a couple hook-ups for that who I will call on when needed.

I have had a shitty fall with some personal/medical issues and such which pretty much halted funds coming in... Now that I am back on my feet I am going to Vegas in January too hahaha. Once that mess is over, focus will be back on the accord.

Well, a bit of a delay happened with being unemployed over the winter, but I have a good job now, which includes being able to get parts at cost, so things are back under way.

2 Weeks ago, I had my buddy Chris over to help me finish pulling my motor. It has been a few years since I pulled my last motor, so this was kind of a pain in the ass. Getting the axles to come out of the transmission proved to be a bitch, and we ran into a couple stupid mistakes pulling the motor out (forgot to disconnect things lol) but a little while later the motor was finally out.

Now... I have been contemplating for a very long time what motor to go with in my car. I still haven't entirely made up my mind as to my future motor plans, but I will either be boosting the new motor, or putting a vtec head on it and going NA.

My reason for choosing the B20z; The motor was inexpensive, I have had other priorities come up to spend my money on, and I want the accord back on the road. It has really good torque and decent hp output, and leaves me open with options for modding.

I am currently deciding what clutch to order, and will be doing that this week hopefully, then I will do a few tune up things to the motor before dropping it in.

Got the motor from a local shop www.jdmsource.ca I got a very clean motor, and a good price. They even delivered it to my house for free.

Integra S1 transmission... cheap and cable.. I don't like the feel of hydro clutch as much.

When removing my radiator hoses... my upper rad hose took a huge chunk of the upper end tank with it, so I decided to get a new radiator. After some research and measurement, I came up with this:
Mishimoto full size CRX radiator
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3334/4569337454_96ef920252_b.jpg

Fits pretty well... I have a spare upper rad crossmember which I will hack up for a trial fit.

Have my welder friend rebuild them stronger... I'm not going to worry about that right now though, mostly just want to get this thing on the road.

Thanks for all the props everyone!... And yea, the guy I got my motor from supplies pretty damn clean motors... My friend has an SR20DET from him in his 240sx and just put down 260hp and 250 some lb ft. to the wheels on a pretty much stock motor with boost controller.

Also, I wish I had some of you 3geez people here too... Help would be great. I somehow get suckered into helping my friends on their cars all the time, but getting people over here to help isn't too easy.

So, as I said I have been getting suckered into helping friends working on their cars lately instead of working on mine... Here is some of what I have been up to;

Helped do some work on my friend's Del Sol which she bought just before winter. A little ricey, but it has a B16 and it's her car and she likes it, so that's pretty awesome.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/4798807442_6388962234_b.jpg

Then a couple weeks back we put a Stoptech Big brake kit on my friends M3. He had the calipers custom painted before fitting them, as he likes to keep things original. Was a pretty straight forward install, 15" rotors and 6 piston fronts... 4 piston rears. They help with 428whp on tap ;)

Before:

During:

And after.... Those are 20" wheels for size reference:

great work and congrats on all the new goodies man. are you building the b20 or going ls/vtec? or leaving it a stock b20?

Thanks. I am hoping to go B20Vtec over next winter with a b16 or b18 type R head. I would like to get some debt like old student loans and such paid down first, so that may take a little while, but the master plan is to build a fairly mild b20vtec setup down the road, something I would like to do myself in my own garage again too. The thought of boost has crossed my mind too, as at our elevation here, NA is tough to make good power with, but that will be a ways down the road if it happens, I would idealy like to get a new winter car before that happens, I want AWD.

The Accord is on the road, and has made her way to the stereo shop. Western finals for IASCA and USACi are in just under two weeks and I plan to be making an appearance and seeing what she can do.

Check engine light came on while my buddy was driving it, but I imagine that is because there is no intake on the car and crank vent on IM is open right now. I will scan it for codes though before driving home, and see what it says.

Word is she drives well though, and pulls pretty decent.... I am getting so impatient, I cant friggin wait to drive this thing!!!!

How do they ride?

Hash_man_Se_i
02-19-2012, 11:12 PM
The front end is ok, but the rear shocks can't keep up with the spring rate at all, and back end gets kind of sketchy when the springs fully unload... I can't wait to get rid of them. My old Tokico shocks H&R springs on my se-i rode a lot better. But then again it wasn't super low either... which has honestly gotten kind of old. Too many speedbumps and steep driveways.

Hash_man_Se_i
05-20-2012, 06:05 PM
Well, small update... My aftermarket Integra clutch cable snapped the other week, it was literally hanging on by a steel thread. I replaced it with an OEM Honda 3g clutch cable for the time being so that I could get my car back on the road.

Fixed my PCV system with new hoses and a new valve and the car runs a lot better now, also did another oil change and trans fluid flush.

And lastly, I bought a full set of Koni's off of forum member ACE_14 so I will be keeping an eye out for those to show up in the next week or so, and be ordering a new spring/coil setup shortly as well. Drawings are also being sent off this week to have new top hats CNC'd by a friend.

The first IASCA competition of the season locally is also coming up in June, so I've got a few improvements to make before this happens.

how long did the entire swap take to build ?

Well, it sat for a long freakin time... so overall it took over a year because I had another car and other priorities, but it could be done in much less time.

I used the mishimoto full size rad for CRX's with a b16. The lower rad mount tabs needed to have the spot welds drilled out, and then rewelded to the lower rad support frame closer it. The sides of the rad bolt to the frame as well and it fits night and tight.

I have been so busy lately with work, and now with moving cities again that we haven't gotten much done. However the drawings are with the machinist and we are working out details. I have him making a few things for my car at the same time.

Yea, I was so occupied with figuring out which decision to make, and planning things out, that I sort of forgot about 3geez for a bit. It is all good news for me, although working for Ferrari has been an amazing experience, this new job i feel is even better. The lower cost of living in Calgary, will mean more money for the accord too! lol.

Also, the Accord was awesome on the trip out... 1100km drive went really smooth, car drove great through the mountain pass, just needs a better alignment to try and fight some of bad tracking issues with big ruts in the road from semi's and such.

Thanks... Car still has factory paint. The pinstripes were dealer installed at one point, look like shit so I took them off.

Haha thanks CAH and A18A. The 4Runner is running like a champ, needs some love but it will get it in due time. The best part of this though, is that because the 4Runner is on the streets it means I can put the Accord into hibernation and hopefully get some work done on it.

This past weekend we had some really warm weather so I braved the long ass line ups at the car wash and gave the Accord a nice bath before putting her away in the garage. I haven't taken pics of it in quite some time, so here some are... Since my last set of pics I haven't done a lot, still sorting out suspension height and such, I did however get my JDM rear spoiler mounted, and I love how it looks. Really completes the outside of this car I think. Now I just need a teg front lip, put all my mudflaps back on, and I'll be set.

And yes, me and the guys at work are already coming up with some fresh ideas for the Accord for spring. I have a few tricks up my sleeve ;)

So, no big updates to speak of here, but I wanted to keep you all in the loop and share some new pics.

Basically just drove the car all summer having fun with it, no big trips or anything but still fun as always. Had a major taillight leak during a big rain storm we had... The city flooded and so did the trunk of my Accord... Scary when you have way too much stereo gear back there!!!! :@ ... Thankfully I pulled the power from the electronics and was able to drain the trunk before any permanent damage could be done. Put new outer taillight gaskets and the outer half of my EDM tails on to remedy this problem which worked great.

Decided to go back to school to change career fields this year, and well that is where all my funds are going for the time being so no real spare cash to spend on the Accord. I do hope to do a few things over winter while it is parked that wont take much cash. On the list to do are;
-Finish trimming my carpet and making it fit so I can put all trim panels back in lol... Pretty much drove with it half done all summer.
-Find new front fenders and roll them properly
-Find 86/87 trunk lid so I can put the inner halfs of my EDM tails on.
-Install EDM rear fogs
-Cut front bumper support so I can install JDM fogs
-Clean up engine bay wiring

Anyways, cleaned up the car for storage tonight after school and went for a last drive and took a few pics. I will post more eventually, but probably not till the weekend as I am really busy with school right now.

Yes sir it is! ... and I agree, as soon as I started having issues I did some research online and realized how common of an issue this is. Luckily that also means it's not very expensive to fix.

AccordB20A

I have gutted mine to take the heat out of the dizzy so fail doesnt happen to me. external coil and external ignitor (OEM accord items) should keep the heat at bay.

Hauntd ca3
05-25-2014, 01:12 AM
every single time i've seen a failed b or f series all in one distributor , its been caused by stuffed spark plugs.
usually will find hot spots on the outside of the coil, this is a weak spot that the ht voltage will jump out of if it cant jump the plug gap, eventually blows module as well.

Hahaha, so true.

Small update:
Stocked up on some parts this past week or so... Got my wheel bearings for the front hubs, they badly need replacing. Also picked up valve cover gasket so I can do a valve adjustment.

Made a good score at pick n pull this past weekend, although it was at the expense of putting out my back, so that has been painful all week. Picked up the following
- Shift boot (mine was trashed) & rubber shift boot (woo no more exhaust fumes)
- Drivers side door seal
- Headlight combo switch (getting tired of my headlights turning off on their own)
- 1g teg front lip (in decent shape)
- Odyssey front brake calipers and brackets for 11" front brake conversion

And lastly, I just ordered new Bridgestone Re-71R tires as my RE-11's are kind of bald.

I am also on the hunt for a new muffler and exhaust components... Almost picked up an RSR ex mag last week, but the tip was kind of beat up so I passed. If anyone knows of someone selling an RSR ex mag or Spoon n1 muffler for a decent price let me know!

Then I caved and bought some air tools and a compressor the other week... have always wanted some, but don't use them enough to justify the high cost. Also with my back being messed up the past few weeks this will hopefully help me get back to making some progress. Scored all of this for under $300 CDN.

More progress with the car this past weekend. I went to visit a friend who lives about 900 kms away in the next province. I wanted to take advantage of the long weekend to get out of town and he wanted to help work on my car. Having a friend who is a welder/fabricator is awesome.

The main goals were to make brackets for my Recaro's as well as replace my magnaflow muffler with the RSR that I bought. Long story short, the RS-R doesn't fit, probably shouldn't have sold the Spoon N1 so quickly, but the seats are in and feel great! Took a bit longer then we hoped for, we were at it most of the day saturday, but they fit great and sit nice and low too.

On the road... the car ate up the highway miles well, and returned some pretty good fuel mileage too.

Ok, small update...

Pick n pull finally had an 86 sedan on the lot for me to get a trunk lid from. Lid is in pretty decent shape and appears to be OEM.

JDM tails now will be complete, just need to get new bulb sockets for the trunk lights as I appear to have lost those!! damn~! ... Trunk will also need paint as well obviously.

And now to the big update... My steal of a deal on a b16a2... Going to take the head off for my B20 vtec conversion and sell the short block. Oh and there's my very dirty YS1 trans sitting next to it.

How's progress going

No real progress as of late, I've had a pretty busy summer. Just enjoying driving the car, rolled over 300,000kms the other week on the odometer. And now I think my fuel pump is on it's way out. If I can just make it until the snow falls I'll be happy to park it then for the winter and start working on it again.

Thanks, I think so too! Just need to get new tail light sockets for the lights on the lid.. I appear to have lost mine :'(

Well, I can`t believe it`s been over 3 years since I last updated this thread.
Honestly, haven`t probably been on the forum since then. Between the forum being quiet and not really doing much to the Accord, I just haven`t spent the time here.

But, I personally kind of hate facebook car pages, peoples need for an answer to any question they have right that second, and the endless useless posts. The 3geez guys have done a pretty good job at keeping that page clean, but I still prefer the old days of the forum. But if no one (myself included) comes and posts here, then what good is it!?

So, here it goes... A bit of an update on me and the project Accord.
I haven't driven the car a ton the past few years. Probably only put on about 3000-4000km the past few years at best. This coming year, I am really hoping to put some more miles on the car.
I also just moved into a new place this summer, which came with a much nicer garage, and has partly motivated me to get back to the car and put some work in.

1. As I was getting ready to move this past summer, out back at my old place. Shanty looking garage and all.

2. Picked up a new daily this past spring. Got it from a friend in Vancouver and drove it back. Slightly modded 06 TSX 6spd. I must say, I love this car...

3. Moving into the new garage was a bit of an adventure. Lots of parts and shit to move. The garage isn't huge (about 20'x20') but it's the best garage i've had of my own. It fits both cars, and has some room to work. I need to build a work bench, replace the lighting with something better among other things. The garage and house are a project on their own.

4. Tucked the Accord away for winter. Winter seemed to come pretty early this year, and hit pretty hard. So I put the car away and back to the TSX.

So, now the real thing that has me motivated to put time back into this car again....

I had been wanting more power for some time now. The b20b I have is quite healthy, and the car is a lot faster than it was with the a20, but it needs something more.
At one point I had actually bought a later b16 off of someone local and was going to go b20vtec. Things happened and financially at the time it didn't make sense for me, so I sold the motor for a healthy profit and decided to think on it some more.

I have been interested in Jackson Racing Superchargers for a long time. Something about them and the power the put out, combined with the packaging just seem like a cool option on a Honda to me.... So, while browsing facebook marketplace a few months back I was pretty interested when I saw one of the b18b kits come up for sale. The problem was, moving is expensive, so are houses, and the cash wasnt really flowing for car parts hahah.

Fast forward a few months and low and behold the JRSC is still for sale. Oh, the guy listed it under Acura Integra, not under car parts haha. So, I message the guy, get some more details and in a couple of weeks my buddy Glen and I hopped on the road and drive round trip 350kms ish to pick this thing up. I had to take it off the motor myself too, and was able to account for all the parts and the condition of them.

So, this winter, I've got a new project on my hands, along with a small list of other mods to go along with it. Looking forward to keeping you all updated along the way.

I'm too new to really know you, but I respect your build and am excited to see you've returned to the forum. I've been thinking I should get back to the forum more often too, the fb page isn't doing it for me. Anyways, looking forward to the development of this new project venture; it should produce some fun results!

Me too! I installed a supercharger on a friends e46 m3 years ago. Can’t be any harder than this right? Lol.

Also, blue I’ve got parts collecting for big brake upgrade too. Just need to order pads.

Lots of work ahead of me.
