Page 5 - Main pictures of car and engine bay.

Pictures are dark since it's going to rain.

 $1,150 later. It doesn't run, but I'll figure it out. I think the starter is dying or the fuel pump is dying, it doesn't turn over very well. It has a new battery too.

This is the cleanest 3gee I have ever seen in person! By far!! The inside is the brownish color and is mint! The drivers side door handle doesn't work too well, but I'll replace it.
This automatic 88 lxi has no dents anywhere. It needs a new hood, front bumper, front turn signal and headlight cover - but I have all that shit brand new in my garage from the hatchback!:welcome:

I have a sunroof and power locks now - kickass!!!! I love this car and it won't even start yet!

Oh, and I had to just throw my rims on very first after I got the car home. lol

It looks like someone ran it up a curb on the drivers side underneath, so I will have to pull that out.

Looks good, some TLC and its a keeper!

BTW pull the starter from your other engine.

BITESIZE
03-24-2008, 12:54 PM
Ok, it's not getting any fuel. I undid the fuel line bolt on the engine and bone dry. I then pull the bolt from the fuel line on the fuel pump and bone dry. Fuel pump dead? Main relay dead?

ghettogeddy
03-24-2008, 12:55 PM

Just hook it to 12 volts and it should run right?

Fuel pump seems to be working, i took it out and hooked it up to the battery. The fuel rail is bone dry. Could it be the main relay or fuel filter?

thegreatdane
03-24-2008, 01:22 PM
Just hook it to 12 volts and it should run right?

yes but you dont have to pull it out. but if you cant hear the main relay clicking, then its most likely the relay.

thegreatdane
03-24-2008, 01:25 PM

if you have a voltmeter you can connect it to the fuel pump connector so you can watch it while you turn the igntion on. should read 12v for a couple of seconds. If it doesnt you need to fix your main relay, either that or the wire going from the relay to the pump is open somewhere. It's not the fuel filter.

BITESIZE
03-24-2008, 01:38 PM
I can hear the main relay clicking in the left hand side of the dash. Do you think the timing could be off a little.

thegreatdane
03-24-2008, 01:42 PM
I doubt thats your problem. If your fuel pump doesnt run then that's your problem. TRy the voltmeter at the pump connector.

ghettogeddy
03-24-2008, 01:55 PM
did you check to see if the pump is pumping try disconnecting the line a run it into a bucket and turn it over a few timers to see if your getting anything also have someone stand buy it to see if its turning on while you turning it over then check your fuses you might have a blown fuse

BITESIZE
03-24-2008, 01:57 PM
When I took the fuel pump out, it was pumping fuel. I'll try the voltmeter thing tomorrow. Well, I'm going to call it a night. I think I'll try pouring some gas into the spark plug holes and try starting it tomorrow. It's getting cold and dark outside. It's going to storm tonight.

ghettogeddy
03-24-2008, 02:04 PM
ya but you were testing it from a separate power source you need to know its runnign in the car lol

BITESIZE
03-24-2008, 02:06 PM
Which it wasn't spitting out alot of fuel, it was kind of just splurgin it out slowly. I couldn't hear it turning either. I've tested fuel pumps before, and I think this is on it's way out.

ghettogeddy

Well, I can't hear the fuel pump after I turn the key.

BITESIZE
03-24-2008, 02:34 PM
Ok, I got mad and tested the voltage on the wires going into the fuel pump. The voltage reads 12.1 volts for 2 seconds when I turn the key on. It's got to be the fuel pump.

I laughed at the dealership when they were firm on the $2,000 they wanted for it not running. I said "you're lucking I'm offering $1100 for it. If you don't take it, I'll find another one, and never come back. " I was walking away and then they took the offer. They probably saw my 98 accord and figured I was serious. I lucked out. It's worth what I paid without it running in my opinion. I have an engine and tranny sitting in my garage so what the hell.

Probably not the starter motor itself but the solenoid. That's usually the weak link.

BITESIZE

I'll just take the starter off my 5 speed and put it on the automatic. They are different right? If I just remove the motor part it should intertwine?

Here's what a stud welder looks like

http://www.etoolcart.com/browseproducts/Stud-Welder-Uni-Spotter-Stinger-UNI5500.HTML

You basically weld little studs using the gun then you use a puller to straighten the panel. No holes are made and you can almost get the surface to be like new.

I'm sure you could rent one somewhere.

BITESIZE

I washed it with the hose. My special ingredient is dish soap in a spray bottle. It works great.

1. Wet the engine down in the shade.
2. Spray dish soap all over the engine bay.
3. Let it soak for about 5 or 10 minutes.
4. Spray off with water.
5. Repeat if desired.
6. Armorall the fuck out of your engine bay.
7. Let it soak for a day or 2.
8. Spray engine off with water hose.

Well, I changed the oil in the car today. Only cost me $11 total. They had a sale at schucks and they gave me an instant savings instead of having to mail in the rebate. Cheap shell oil and cheap fram filter, but shit what a deal. Next time I'll get good stuff. I bet the oil hadn't been change in this car for 2 years, since it did sit on that lot for 2 years.

The damn car would only start after 2 minutes of cranking it over and I was getting pissed after 2 days of looking at shit and tracing back to what I had replaced. Turns out number 1 spark plug was hardly threaded in. I remember when I change the plugs, that number 1 was hard to get out, so i didn't want to reaf on it when I put it back in. Turns out, it wasn't firing on number 1 obviously. So I'm a dumbass, it's official. lol

Now, the car fires right up and sounds even better! I hope it keeps starting up after it's cold, or I'm going to be pissed as hell!

Hahaha, spark plug #3 on my accord was hardly threaded in when i bought the car, it fired but it made a distinctive tick sound when i was parked next to a building. Went and took a look while it was running and i noticed the 3rd wire was "Bouncing" lol. Just something I never bothered to look over when i first bought my 3gee. It sucks to know the feeling of letting something as simple as that go for a short while lol.

Glad your LXi is working out well for you, still waiting for some vids!

Be careful with those spark plug holes. I use a thread chaser/spark plug hole cleaner to clean mine out. Now my plugs go in my hand all the way, then I just snug them with a ratchet.

I changed the tranny fluid today, and I noticed the fuel filter leaking some fuel out of the smaller 10mm bolt (pressure relief bolt)? So I thought, I'll try tightening it a little and snap! I went to the Honda Dealer and the damage is $20 for the bigger bolt and the smaller bolt with the two little washers. Stupid 10mm bolt!! RARR!!!!! Why didn't they make the bigger bolt so you could use a long socket on it? WTF is with the wierd ass shape?

I read somewhere that you're not supposed to tint the sunroofs, because they will crack over time, but have also read that it can be done.
So I dont know whose telling the right story

sorry to be another comment late in the game too, but congrats on getting back into a 3G. I'm torn about the sedan for hatchie swap, but it's white, and it's clean, so I'll toss ya a thumbs up for it. Engine bay looks rediculously clean. Keep it up, and keep the pics flowin.

Thanks for checking in. I do miss the hatch, but it needed too much work than it was worth. Plus funds are tight. :( Also I need another 4 door for my family.

I hear you on the fam thing. That's why I'm sportin an '02 Protege (aka 4-door) as my DD now.

I can take care of that for you. Bring it up to my house, and I'll bust out the Sawz-All on the roof. Can't promise any way to make it weather-tight tho.
