Maybe a dumb question but I’m wondering if the 1988 Accord was originally setup only to start when the clutch is pushed in. My ’88 will start with the clutch out. Do other ’88 Accords start with the clutch out?

not sure about others, but I know my 88 LX-i would start without the clutch pushed in.

mine will, but thats cause its an auto->5 speed. i guess i could install the extra set of pedals i have and add the circuit for that, but i should get it working

I was wondering about that... My 87 doesn't have one, but my 87 Samurai came with a clutch sensor, and I took that out.

I have a 88 lx and it will crank without the clutch in(even if ti is in gear). I just figured the nuetral saftey switch was bad.
But if I'm reading correctly it doesn't have one.
Cool, one less sensor to change.(not that I was going to, hehe.)

usually the clutch switches tend to break. Thats why all you non-pusher inner clutch-to-start kids get away with it. At least in factory 5 speed cars

Mine still works, but I bypassed it.

yeah mines an 88 and I don't have to push in the clutch to get it to start. I do it anyway though just to be sure the car won't jump when I start it. It's hard to tell when you're in neutral with a short shifter. lol

i have never even thought of not pushing the clutch in when starting

not doing it could be dangerous

yeah i do it for safety also...i remember once when i was learning how to drive a stick i had my car in reverse and i let go of the clutch....car jumped back...almost hitting the car in the back....so now i make sure its in neutral before i let go of the clutch

^^yep. I always make sure I have the e-brake on too before I start my car.

I never even realized I could do that, heh. Starting with the clutch disengaged is an ingrained habit for me, after seventeen years of driving a stick.

Looks like I missed out on the clutch starter interlock by 1 year on my ‘88. Thanks to 3geez I won’t spend any more time trouble shooting or tracing down schematics. Thanks!
