Just talked to the local junkyard; they have a "couple" of Lx-i valve covers for only $25!! Time to go get one and get to painting it!

Nah... I sand blasted it and painted it with the High gloss, Metalcast stuff... Apparently some guy painted a whole Smallblock with the stuff, so it's heat resistant to 500*.
I got about 6 coats on it, and it looks awesome. Now I just got to wait a couple days for it to cure and I can sand the raised portion.

The stock powder coat looks awesome from the factory, and if I got a decent looking valve cover, it would have stayed powder coated... But I am going blue with this car, and that vavle cover looked UGLY!!!
I just got a good look at it tonight, and it is gonna be one hot looking valve cover! I gotta let it cure till morning, then I will go down to this guy I know, who used to do all kinds of custom paint work, and POLISH the raised parts... Can you say F-L-Y!!

No, it is about six coats, I brushed with brass wirewheel the fins and then polished with mother's on the wad wheel on dremel. Then kind of in between coats I took a tee shirt rag and my finger soaked in laquer thinner and very carefully wiped paint off the fins.. I saved a couple of steps. Overal I am pleased with the results, it didn't have to be perfect. I used genuine Cat paint which is good stuff. If you ever saw a new Cat engine you could appreciate it, they look powder coated and leaks are easy to spot.
I need to post a fresh picture, it looks way better now that is has dried two weeks, very shiny.

Oh yeah... Been around Cats and Cases most my life. Cool color and very durable.
You shined that well! I though it was a light blue.
