My family seems to have very good experience with Mobil 1. Its too late to put that in my engine anyway... I used whatever the cheapest I can find. Thats what the last owner used 100k miles before.

And the engine keep running and running..... arrr I need an excuse for engine swap!!!

Mobile . I have 256.000 miles on it and have not done any cylinder or piston ring work on it and it doesn't burn much more than a 1/4 qt between changes

A good quality 10w-30 changed every 3,000 miles. No oil burning to speak of after 203,000 miles, although I've got this little oil leak that is irritating that causes me to add a little every now and then. I think it's coming from the return channel through the head gasket, but it might be the dizzy.

I'm not a fan of starting up with Mobil 1 in high mileage cars. But you can really get going on all this oil stuff, see some of the sites. Personally, I'd say use a good 10w-30 and don't let the mileage run up between changes and you'll be fine.

I should add I have 152k on the car. Started using Mobile 1 since 115k, it doesn't burn any oil nor leak any oil.

I'm a little wary of switching to Mobile 1 at 184,000 miles, up until now i've had Honda do all of my oil changes but now that it's warming up outside i've decided to do them myself. What are your thoughts on using Mobile 1 at this mileage? My car doesn't leak any oil and has a new oil pan gasket.

I switched to synthetic on my civic when it had 120k miles. Still no problem.

If an oil leak develops, it would have leaked anyway at some point.

By the way, It is a waste of money to change your oil less than 7500 miles unless you live in a very hot climate. I have never subscribed to the " Every 300 miles" thinking because Honda always said every 7500. I have 256,000 on my SE-i and have always done it at 7500 miles or so.

I change mine every 3000 simply because of the extreme cold in the winter and because of the amount of mud and dust from my gravel driveway in the summer. If I lived in a mild climate i'd do every 5000.

i use free 76 5w-30 from my uncles shop. i dont pay for it so i just make sure to change it every 3000 miles with a Napa wix gold/premium filter.

I do 3000 mile changes using Castrol GTX in my new motor and GTX High Mileage in my 310,000 mile motor.

I used Castrol GTX High Mileage 10W40, During Summer I used Castrol GTX High Mileage 20W50.

I'd Change My Oil Every 5,000, Honda Says on all new cars that 5,000 is fine, so why not

You're probably right. Some years ago, Consumer reports did a study of higher vs. lower-mileage oil changes, and also of synthetic v. dino oil. You can argue with the results because they used cabs in the study, and that service is hardly typical. Anyway, they didn't find much of a difference.

I think 7500 is fine as long as you drive long enough each time to let the oil heat up and boil off the moisture. I personally feel that there is an incremental advantage to doing it more frequently, and also it's more psychologically rewarding (!). If I were serious I'd send it off to an oil analysis place and determine the optimal change frequency from their results.

If you go to a couple of the "oil" sites, they have these really spirited discussions about a lot of esoteric stuff. I'm not into it to that degree, but I would wonder about a 5w-xx oil in a warm climate, with Honda specifying 10w.

i use castrol magnatec 10w30 in every car i've owned and never had a prob
11,000 km cahnges with a fram filter and it still comes out just turning black in the 5g
and its stil brown in the 3g at same mileage
dont like mobil, find it thins out more as it gets closer to change time and burns more.
my theory is dont buy oil from a company that sells petrol.
buteach to there own eh

I did the first oil change in 1989 with Mobile 1 10W30. Over the years I have pretty much used whatever synthetic 10W30 was on sale, both Group II and Group III. The guys on "Bob is the Oil Guy" .com have spoken well of the Wal Mart "Super Tech" oil and I have used that numerous times as well. It is less than $14 for a five quart jug. I run it for 10,000 miles as I have been doing for the last 17 years or so.

I gave the SE-i the "royal" treatment with 4 quarts of 10W30 Royal Purple (FINALLY having an engine that does not leak oil!!!)

I couldn't realize why any motor oil would be 7.49 a quart. Now I understand.

yep Bob the Oil guy is a good site
I use Walmart oil all the time in my other cars, it is close to valvoline, citgo.. which are good oils.
My baby's get special oil though... when I can afford it.
In my LX, I use Castrol GTX "classic" lol .. Castrol cleans your motor and holds up well.
In my truck I use Castrol Syntec synthetic blend. 5w30w, well I have only had it long enough to change the oil once. I have to say I actually felt a difference in how the engine ran, much better, less throttle needed. But then, I can always tell the difference when I change the oil in a car I drive regularly.
Royal Purple, I will give it a try next.

I didn't see any uber horsepowers with RP (c'mon... its motor oil), but as always the devil's in the details. The engine holds a rock solid idle and overall feels MUCH smoother. It's also a tad quieter, too.

This is in my civic...but I will either use semi synthetic 10w40 made by Golden Spectro, or a 5w40 full synthetic from castrol. Both are motorcycle oils, but they hold up well and I have had no issues with them..(plus i get them for free)

I've been going with one quart of lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer and topping off with Quaker state 10w-40. I noticed an immediately smoother running engine and no longer had a flicker oil pressure light even with my idle as low as 550-600 rpms.
I am going to do one more oil change like this and then do a compression test and see if it is better than before the Lucas.
BTW we sell the Lucas products where I work so I get it fairly cheap and figured it was worth a try.

For the last couple of oil changes its been Royal Purple 20w-50, but before that it was Valvoline ZR1 racing oil 20w-50. Both are very good oils in my opinion, but when I put Royal Purple in my tranny (5-speed) it eliminated the grind i had when shifting into third.

I change my oil anywhere between 2500-3500 miles, depending on budget and time. I wouldnt dare leave the oil after that. I mean the oil is pretty much toasty after that. Not to say that you cant change it after more miles, its just my preference.

I use very light extra virgin olive oil imported from Greece with red wine vinegar & fresh ground pepper. Delicious!
