B20A2 and B20A8 are EDM, the JDM ones (both black and gold) I think are just B20A's.

Awesome info!! Well needed...
I'm gonna ask my JY if they have any 88-89 LXi cams next monday, and hopefully I will have a beefcake CHEAP cam!

Hmm, what's with the huge differences on the B20A2 and A8?
I thought the two engines were pretty much the same, just with the A8 having emissions components and 9.3:1 compression instead of the B20A2's 9.4:1 (or was it 9.5). Hence the slightly bigger power output of the A2.

Honda Being Weird I Reckon?
What I don't get is the A8 having such a more aggressive cam and still losing 15 HP!
I know emissions kills HP but not that much

I checked the compression ratios from the shop manual, I was almost right. It's 9.5:1 for the A2, and 9.4:1 for the A8
Also I think that both engines might have the same cams in the 88-89 models.
And where did you get the 15 hp difference from? o.O
The B20A2 is 142 hp and the B20A8 is 133 hp (using wikipedia as reference) . With the differences between the two being compression ratio, catalytic converter and egr.

Those old 80's catalytic converters sucked.
Were the manifolds different? What about the computer? I can see those both having a significant effect on the power.

Yeah, the exhaust manifolds are different. B20A2 has a 4-2-1, and the B20A8 a 4-1.
Don't know about the ECU

At least in the states, the 4-2-1 had 2 oxygen sensors, thus requireing honda to have a different computer for the extra input.

You could make it read Europe instead of Japan tho ;)
Also, as I said before. I think both engines have the same cams 88-89 but that the 87-86 versions of the A2 might have the smaller one. Anyone know any better about this?
