So i got this 88 lx, and the carb is acting retarded. at least im pretty sure its the carb.

Whenever the car is either out of gear, w/ the cluth in, or otherwise under no load it will die on me. Sometimes it will almost die but then it will jump back up to about 2200 rpms, then drop back down to 2-300. Then back and forth.

At other times, for instance after i've been on the highway a while with the cruise on, I'll pop the clutch, throw it out of gear and start slowing down and instead of cutting out the damn thing will Idle at about 4200 rpm. This is Bad.

This is the first honda and the first carb'd car i've owned, but i'm not a brick, and I know how to work on cars. What I'm wanting to know is:

What are the odds that doing a full vac removal

will fix this little annoyance of mine?

also, will doing this come back to screw me when i put a weber on?

Doing a full emissions and vacuum removal may solve the problem, but it could also just be the carb is gunked up. Get some carb cleaner after that thing first to clean up the linkages and such. Then check around for vacuum leaks. Vacuum leaks are the scourge of these cars.

Putting on a Weber is really the ultimate in vacuum removal since it gets you down to just the basics. One line for vacuum advance, one for PCV, and one for the brake booster. Doesn't get any simpler than that.
