Temp Gauge Up and Down

New to 3G accords, not new to online forums or cars.

I just bought an 88 LX Sedan with a carb'd engine

1) The temp gauge goes up and down. If I tap on the gauge it straightens itself out. What could be causing this problem? How do I fix it?

I've spent about an hour searching this forum; any help would be welcome.

Try bleeding the cooling system. I have heard that air causes this.

could be the cluster itself or the sensor on the thermostat housing. Its the single wire sensor, somtimes the plug gets loose on it

dose it change as the revs change? mine used to go up and down as the revs would change it still dose every now n thing i even replaced the cluster so i dunno whats up with it lol

Have you checked the connection on the sensor? Mine was really corroded, could be yours is the same. The sensor you are looking for only has a single wire going to it.

how did you fix it? Where is the sensor?

its a black wire going to the thomostat houseing take it off clean the thing it plugs in to and crimp a new end on to the wire :)

tried it, didn't work. If I tap on the gauge it fixes itself sometime.

Sure sounds like a bad gauge, if tapping affects it.
