Concerning the $50 paintjob has anyone tried rustoleum pro in gray container rather than the tremclad? How long do I wait to wash it and will it hold against salt? I figured I'd start a new thread I was bored

well he still needs to buff it but ya i would have done a black or white personally

battleship grey? maybe with some pearl or graphics.. lol the pearl alone would be over 50 bucks though. :)
I think to do a good job with the rustoleum it will take more than 50 dollars by the time all is said and done. tape, several different types of sandpaper, solvents, buffing materials, at least a gallon and a quart of paint, the list goes on.
The DIY cheap paint job can and has been done though, but the key to any paint job it the prep work.

Hey man...in all honesty it looks really good considering you used rustoleum paint. After you buff it and wax it, I bet it'll look way better!!

My gallon of Dupont Ful-cryl 2 cost about 140 bucks, and even with a shitty application it looks tons better than most of these "cheap paint" jobs. Tremclad or Rustoleum will look shiny for about a week, after exposure to any wet or sun it chalks right up and falls off. I painted my Toyota with Tremclad, you guys want to see what that looks like now?

Edit: Also, that crap paint is nowhere near compatible with real epoxy paint, so if you or someone else decides to do a real paint job down the line, they have to completely remove it or it will instantly wrinkle and blow off the topcoat. Varnish and Lacquer/tolulene based paints do not get along at all.
