I changed mine a few weeks ago. It wasn't too hard actually. The hardest part was taking off and putting on the brake lines. They are on there pretty tight and its hard to get the nuts started on the thread when you are putting it back on.
Expect some brake fluid to leak out when you are putting it on. Your new master cylinder should come with a bleeding kit for it. Its really important you bleed the cylinder before you put it on. Other then that, it shouldn't be too bad. Take off some of the brackets for the various lines (ie speedo), makes the job much easier. Hope this helps.

How much do they cost? Well I know here in california I can pick up one that's brand new, not remanufactured for $52, cheap if you ask me.;) Oh that's from autozone or autozone.com

I changed the master cylinder myself a while back.. Wasn't too hard of a job. I bought a remanufactured one from advanced auto parts for $27.
I still have spongy brakes though. But the part wasn't that hard to change out... Just make sure you get new nuts and dont strip the bolts..
