I always wondered WTF was with the 4500 RPM "yellow line" in those SOHC 2.3 litres. Never made any sense to me. And the N/A ones are slow as hell. Looks like the body's in good shape.

By the mid 80's, Ford started to come out of the dark ages introducing the "5.0 H.O.", daring to produce a small car with a V8 engine tuned for more power, and not just to power a land yacht. At the same time, Ford's Special Vehicle Operation (SVO) did some work with turbo-charging a mid sized 4 cylinder engine. The SVO Mustangs were built from 1984 to 1986. I don't know which year this car is. They did quite well compared with the 5.0 HO, but couldn't compete with a 351. In any case, it's much easier to sell 8 cylinders as a muscle car. However, it really is amazing at how much space is left in the engine bay of the SVO. And with the engine must closer to the center of the car, they're supposed to handle real well.

For now ima just do the 5 spd swap to get it moving. After that i dont really have any plans for it until summer is over. I really just wanted a convertible for summer. And after that i think ima look into the whole turbo thing. I hear that they can smoke some 5.0 cars. But yeah thanks for all the comments guys. I got nothing but dogged on over at prelude power =P

My mom had a V6 auto Mustang and I thought it was a worthless peice of crap. Mustang, Monte Carlo, Camaro, they all lost the muscle that once made them worthy of their names.

yeah its a shame they tried to keep the names alive and ruined them
the only one that really survived was the vette

Well not to jack the thread, but I figure since we're talking new toys, I'll show mine off. Bought it this weekend, $500. 1 owner, older lady, just bought a VW didn't want the Honda anymore... just gotta get those stupid stickers off the bumper and replace the stolen headlights/corners...

the 2.3l turbo is a great little engine that went unnoticed against the larger displacement 5.0. My 88 turbo coupe would smoke the fox bodies of the same era. With the larger 5 speed turbo and a few little engine/tuning tweaks it would perform very well. The ford eec-iv handles much like the crome tuning of today.

Well i got the car running the other day and drove it all day today and no major problems. The only thing that needs attention is the rack and pinion, the drivers side inner tie rod joint moves in and out about 1/2 an inch. And it needs new tires soon. But that is it, it runs great and apparently id doesn't need to be smogged until Feb 2009 which is really really cool. Anyway that is my update.
