I have changed everything, all new sensors, timing belt, head gasket, fuel injectors, coil, plugs and wires and rotor and cap.Starts and runs fine at idle but as soon as you take off it stumbles till it hits 3-4000 rpms.As long as you idle or keep the rpms high it does ok.I also cut out the cat and it did not help.Mark

that is a lot of things to have replaced, how about the air filter, egr valve?

Yes it is alot of parts,i am lucky to have a rolled running car to take parts off of.All the sensors on it are good.Yes i changed the egr valve too.I have always used 89 octane fuel and it has run fine. This all started after putting the timing belt and head gasket on.I have no lights on the dash or the ecu.
Timed the crank to tdc on flywheel and by watching no.1 piston.Timed the head before putting back on.Installed belt and checked all timing mark, all marks line up.
The motor was one i bought and put in a while back,if the head has been shaved how can you tell.what would this do to the timing. Thanks Mark

Which sensers did you change?

is the intake manifold the 86-87 style or is it the 88-89 style? this may be caused by the motor not getting enough air as a result of the secondaries being closed....possibly. Also, check your vacuum connections. You may have just missed something when you were reinstalling.

The engine came out of a 89 accord auto,it has the same manifold as the 86 engine i took out.I have changed the black box on the firewall and all of the air hoses, also changed both of the temp ones in the thermastat housing.
It runs like it is hitting on 3 cylinders till it hits 3000 rpms.I will go back over the air hoses again and check them closer. Thanks again,Mark

I guess check your ignition and fuel components....ive got nothing for ya really. Stick a screwdriver on your injectors and stick your ear to the screwdriver to see if you can hear them firing...

Does sound like the timing is a bit retarded
but just to get this straight
What year intake?
Black box?
Ecu?
They do differ.
was no problems before timing belt? = advance your timeing see if that helps may have got it a tooth off not hard to do

maybe a valve or two not seating, on that subject have you checked the valve adjustment.
Not any signs of a blown head gasket is it? check the firing order too

Manifold and black box are out of 89 but are the same as my 86.I opened up the black box
and checked them side by side, they are the same.manifolds are the same.Checked valves
when head was off and all valves are seated, cannot twist them when seated.Put in new head gasket when i put head gasket on.
Being a tooth off sounds about right.that is why i asked how to tell if a head has been shaved. Will try that when it stops raining.thanks Mark

I don't think the 89 had a black box, maybe somebody did some changing around before you got it, also the intakes are totally different. supposed to be anyway...
hope you get it right with putting it up a notch or two

Edit. my bad, I guess the 89 has a black box ? still they are a lot different than 86-87

86 and 89 intake are totally opposites. 89 has secondary butterflies which open at a certain rpm.

Still raining, crap.i did look at both manifolds and they are the same.I opened both boxes
side by side and looked at all the components, they were the same.
If it stops raining i will set the time up a notch,Thanks.Mark

The 89 manifolds weren't designed to be put on an 86 though. The 89's do to have black boxes.

Edit: thought you said don't thought that was weird, i know you know what your talking bout!
