Well its about time to get one of these started on my car... i wasn't able to keep track of some work that i have already done. i posted a thread when the car was first bought found here: http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63806 . i wont repost the pics in this thread just due to laziness.

heres some random cell pics i have that were taken that just happen to have my car in it to get the ball rolling

And I still have those fog covers, if you haven't found any yet.

I run them on crown vics and impalas at work and never had one crack, and believe me they take a beating. These cars are hot seated 24/7 . The CD rotors make the pads last a lot longer and resist warpage.

I suppose different manufacterers and vehicle specifi applications could play into the likelyhood of troubles.

Brakes look good. Props on the SS lines, they were definitely an improvement over stock.

As for rotors, I might as well add my 2¢ to this too. I have Brembo c/d rotors front and rear, and under normal to heavy street use, I highly doubt any decent quality c/d rotor will crack. That being said, don't just go buy blanks, drill some holes in them and expect them not to crack. They will.

The only time I've seen decent c/d rotors crack is under heavy track use. They dissipate heat better, but the drillings to weaken the structure a little. After a heavy track day, it's best to do some 'cool down' driving, where you allow the rotors to be heated down, instead of driving hard and heating the snot out of the rotor, then just parking it when you're done with your race. They will most likely fail prematurely.

If you like the look of c/d, but don't do much more then aggressive daily driving, I would consider going with dimpled and/or slotted rotors. Aggressive looks, and solid, but the dimplings and slots do still allow the gases and heat to escape effectively. (Of course there are plenty of arguments about the dimples actually causing gases to get trapped on the surface between the pad and reduce friction, thus reducing stopping power, but I have yet to see anyone prove that.)

2ndGenGuy
05-20-2008, 07:53 AM
Man the white LXi coupe is looking nice! And +1 to Mark's comment about the brakes, I agree whole heartedly. Mark, are your Brembo rotors the OE blanks that are drilled or do you have an upgraded set? I have some Brembo OE blanks that are drilled and slotted after the fact, and they have yet to crack on me, but I don't put them through anything more hardcore than an autocross every now and then.

thanks everyone for the comments, sadly it doesnt look as well in person the pics really blend out its problems.

and yeah mike thats what i have allways known on rotors. extreme heat up and cool down is what creates stress cracks etc. and i would NEVER try to drill my own rotors only takes 1 hole to be off 1/10th of a mm to throw the rotors out of balance. i was looking at brembos but just dont have the money for them so i figured id wait till next time.

my next project comeing up is the damn steering rack... looks like a fun job :(

well a little update...

the car has been giveing me full hell... i have a large list of things to fix that included all new suspention bushings, oil leaks, power stearing, new rims/ tires (old rims are bent and tires are messed up from no alignment) but some more things went rong that im rushing to fix..

the driver side power window for some reason went screwy and keeps trying to role down when allready down... i ended up putting another old set in there to keep the window up. also after haveing a starting problem (wich ended up being the battery) i found out my injectors are leaking like crazy, so i orderd some injector seal kits from napa. and lastly i had a bad rattle from doing the brakes figured out my brake caliper holder was worn out and causeing the rattle so i replaced it today and allso threw some new terminals on the batt

markmdz89hatch
06-16-2008, 04:58 AM
my first guess for excessive draw on a battery is always the radio. yank the fuse for the radio one night and see if the battery level is any better.

Don't forget though, if the alternator is dead, or even just terribly weak, your battery will not 'hold' a charge. Bust out the volt-meter, and make sure you're somewhere between 11.5 and 13 with the car off. Then turn it on and hold the rpm's over 2000-2500 and you should be reading above 13.8 (ideally more like 14.1+). If you're not seeing a change in volts, replace that alternator.

for drains...
check brake lights sticking, trunk light, and glove box light,
I had the brake lights stick for one reason or another on both my 3gens

mushroom_toy
06-16-2008, 09:29 PM
Ditto what roodoo said, when I got my 3gee, the brake lights stuck as well. But yeah definitely check the alternator, because in some cases even if it isnt weak or dead it can drain the battery instead of charge it.

well i woulda updated yesterday but 3geez was down..... i got the batt charged and took it down to autozone to get the alt tested... it came back good as well as the batt.. there dignostic tool said that there was a batt pull with the key off.. so i went back and put a test light between the positive cable and the pos terminal... watching for the light to dim with a fuse pulled... well it went dim when i pulled fuse #4 from the underhood fusebox wich is horn and setbelt motors.... i havent tried anything under the dash yet though...

and on the taillight thing i just redid the brake light switch becuse they used ot stay on at all times but that was fixed

now for a bad update.... the car wouldnt start for a while today... hapend twice... engine light came on and it wouldnt start... 30 minutes later it started but it keeps haveing this problem.. the check engine light buzzes when it comes on or off...i will check the code next time it happens

Don"t all coupes have the grab ya seatbelts? do they wrap around you with the key off? I would say a sensor in the seat, years of a lot of humidity would kill the reliablity of those I would think.

yeah i was shocked... there good about haveing 3geez... but i looked at the prelude one and it looked really old and it had water on it (open windows) so i kinda didnt want to chance it... oh and i noticed you grabed the combo switch from the red 2gee lol... also dunno if it helps or if you have seen it but theres a 2gee hatch now.. i didnt check year though its light blue

the car is dead... done, stuck......im fed up aswell at this moment... it seems i blew the transmition.... heres what happend mayby someone can figure it out..

i drove a long distance today(if it matters), was driveing along with my buddy takeing him home and i get a brake light warning on the guages so i ask him if he will check my tails for me if i pull over.. he agrees.. i pull over and he gets out of the car.. i put the car in nutral and let off the clutch... car dies out with a thud... i crank it back up make sure its in nutral and let out the clutch again... dies with a clunk...i figure allright i just drove here i will just see what it does, i put it in gear and try to take off and it clinks out, dies...crank the car up again rev it up to almost 5k and slowly let of the clutch again the car starts moveing forward then slams and dies...i try putting it back in gear and the shifter is fully stuck and wont move, we pushed it into a parking space and left it... a buddy drove me back for me to try it again the shifter moves again but it still just clunks out dead...

sadly i cant afford this car anymore... i have put 200 into it alone since last payday... thats less then 2 weeks.. i could be makeing payments on a 2000+ year car for that... i love the accord and im not tradeing it in... but i might have ot set the project aside becuse its just screwing things up for me... im almost 20 and im trying to make it on my own... and this car is not letting me save any money at all im suposed ot be into work in less then 4 and a half hours and i dont know what to do... i havent even been asleep, and the car is still suck in this parking lot..i cant even afford to get it towed right now.... im just i dont even know anymore...

I wish I had a truck that was street legal, I'd at least help you get it home.

It really does seem like a bad trans. Again, if I had a truck, I have a trans I'd let you pay me later for. The last time I put a trans in the Camaro, I screwed up the rear trunk lining pretty bad.

When you get the car home, drain the trans fluid and see if there's any metal floating around in there. If there is, then you'd know it's the trans.

the fact that it did that when you let off of the clutch is telling me it's probably a clutch io throwout bearing, have you checked the cv axles too? if one has gone bad it could be locking up. i've seen them do that, if you had someone with a truck could bring it up here,i would help you,i'm off all next week. any members able to do that or tow it? f you can get it here i will help you tear out the tranny and we can see if it's a clutch,i'm sure someone on here has a decent used clutch or tranny. you could probably work something out. dammit if the bank hadn't screwed me out of that money i would have gas to come down and help you. also that little clip that moves the throwout bearing,if it breaks it will do this. had the same thing happen to me.

i really dont think its cv's due to the fact that if i push the car (while off) while its in nutral the trans crands and catches if i push the clutch in all the noise goes away and it roles fine... thus i can tell its sometihng in the trans, cv would make clunking noises even with the clutch pushed in

if the clutch is brand new good chance the spring broke in there. loosen the tension on the clutch cable, pull it off of the bell housing, then try to move the clutch arm back and forth. if it feels strange it's probably the retaining spring.

Have you given any thought to buying something so cheap that you don't care if it breaks down? I drove my last 3gee like 15,000 miles and only payed $500 for it. Very few repairs, but I kept track of what was about to fall apart. Right now, it needs a lot of work to be road worthy again, but hey, $500 bought me a lot of miles.

If your credit is ok try to get a loan at Florida credit union. There APR's are lower than the vast majority of banks. One time i got a $3000 loan for $144/mo with nothing as collateral. It's also easier to get a loan there if your credit isn't great.

Vanilla Sky

The cheapest thing you can do is keep the 3gee and fix what it needs as it needs it. Keep it off the highway as much as possible, trying to only keep it in town. Take a whole day, if needed, and write down EVERYTHING the car will need in the next 25,000 miles. Try to make an educated decision on whether it's worth putting that much money into, or if a newer (and honestly more reliable) car would be a better option.

I know you mention the 240SX. I can attest to the drivetrain in that car as being really reliable. I have the same engine and a variation of that transmission in my truck that's towed a trailer for about 50% of its miles. The only thing my truck needs is tune-up stuff from sitting, a timing chain (the tensioners go out and wear the chain; if you're buying a 240, make sure this has been done, or use that as negotiating room), and a bed.

If I had the cash laying around, I'd buy the 3gee from you so you could buy something else. I have no problem with fixing what it needs, and understand that it has problems. I just don't have more than a few bucks to spare right now with the wedding and all.

In the end, it's just a car. Don't let us talk you into keeping a car you don't think will last. It's your money, not ours.

lostforawhile
07-27-2008, 09:46 AM
yea why don't you save enough money to get it transported over to vanilla skys place and he could help you get it roadworthy. if you look enough maby you could find a parts car with a blown engine or something and use it for the suspension parts and such. if you could get the bearings and ball joints, i would rebuild these spindles i've got for you . just swap them out for yours so i have spare wishbones. it's really easy to swap an entire wishbone out.

Yeah, I can't really store the car, but I'll let you pay me back for the trans. You'd still have to buy any fluids and stuff, and I know consumables can hit $100 to change a trans, but I'd let you pay me back.

I do think that $500 down and $150-$200 a month is better than $150-$200 a month in repairs in your case. If you had a place to work on it, that's one thing. If you're working in the dirt with very limited tools, then payments are a better option.

If you don't need a back seat, I've gotta say that a Miata is a good option, too. A $1500 is easy to find in this area, and almost anyone can get a personal loan for $1500 if they are willing to use a car as collateral. Going with a Miata puts you with a larger aftermarket than with the 240, and fewer people drift (and crash) them, so it doesn't artificially inflate the value.

Just a quick thought though - my car's trans was doing exactly what you describe when I bought the car. After yanking on the shifter for a while trying to get it to work right, I noticed that while the car would die out any time i let out the clutch with the trans in gear, the car would actually go forward when the shifter in neutral. When I found that out I drove it for about a quarter mile. As I pulled away from a stop sign the trans unstuck itself and it's been fine since. Might be worth checking it out a bit more to see if it's something like that before you resort to selling the car or dropping in a new tranny.

Check the tranny fluid man. Just take the fill bolt out, if fluid leaks out, the tranny is full. If it doesn't, then you are low on fluid. If the fluid does leak out, see what condition the fluid is in. It won't leak out a lot, so a small catch pan will be just fine.

hold up a sec. why do you say the motor is done now too? Did the timing belt snap too?

do you have any friends with a car dolly, or know someone that could tow you to a parking lot or something? When you say you have no place to check this, I'm assuming that means you have to park on the street right?

A new tranny (if that's all that's wrong) is the cheapest option compared to a bike or moped, and still keeps you dry when it rains, and affords you some passenger/cargo room as opposed to your 2-wheeled options.

If you're willing to do the work yourself, we'll all help you out as much as possible. I know there's a few members here that live in FL too, and someone's gotta be somewhat close to you. Maybe they can assist as well.

What's your take? Sell it as a junk or figure out a way to get this beast back up and running?

edit...
If you're interested in getting this thing up and running, either start up a thread in the mechanical section, or let me know and I'll hack up this thread and pull all the trouble explanations out and create a new thread with it for you.

no no the engine still runs fine... my only problem with riping the trans out and fixing it is this.. say i can get it all fixed for around 400-500 depending whats broken.... the car itself still wouldnt be "road safe" the ball joints and other bushings are so far shot that i can get the wheel to move almost half a foot in any direction,,, also the windows dont work as i have a bad window regulator , i also still have to pull that fuse every night so the car doesnt die and plug it in whenever i want to drive it... i want to fix it i do.. but i really am sick of the car... another reason im going moped is that i can cancle my car insurence (theres an extra 130 a month easy) plus gas saveings (gets 70 mpgs compaired to the accords 28 city) my current livieng situation is only temp when i moved back down to florida i was given a small place to stay for cheep so i could save up money to split an apartment with someone... well the deadline is november and i have ot get saveing.. cutting as many bills out of my buget right now is what ima have to do... it sucks... and it will suck every day i have to drive the damn thing...

right now what i want to do is get a small loan for the moped and pay it off so i can keep the accord and fix it later but i dont see that happening.. mayby i should sell it and try to find a better conditioned car later

Stop and think about this, you are not exactly rich now, what are you going to do if you find another car in your budget range and it needs suspension work, ac, and some of the same things wrong with this one. Even a car ten years newer could need the same things.
sounds to me like you could fix the tranny if you could get it up to Vanilla's for a work meet, and stick with it.
I know this isn't helping, I wish you better luck on cars.

ok, so knowing all else that's wrong still doesn't tell me this is a bad deal to fix. Moped will be old and useless the first time it rains. Although it's a great 'nice day' transportation option that gets insanely good gas mileage, it's not the best option in the world.

That estimate of 400-500 should cover not only the tranny and cheap clutch (if you do in fact need a new clutch), but should take care of the full front suspension ball-joint replacement.

Something like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-89-Accord-Control-arm-Bushing-Ball-joint-Tie-rod_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42614QQihZ016QQitem Z260267035766QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW) would suffice for a full front-end service. As for that damn fuse, now that I'm hearing about a bad window regulator, I might wager a guess that there may be a short in that which could be partial, if not all, cause of your fuse issue.

If you had a pull-a-part in Fla, it would cost you only $193.00 for a transmission with guarantee, A whole rack and pinioin with outer tie rods intact, and four control arm assy.. Sick ain't it?

The point is to see if you have any fluid in the transmission. If you don't have fluid or are low on it, that doesn't help the issue. You aren't draining the transmission with the fill bolt you are simply checking the level of the fluid.

they still work i nthe rain.. it will suck but it will work, i work outside so if it rains ima be in the rian anyways so getting wet going to work wont be much of a big deal...

its hard to explain the money problem im haveing.. if i keep the accord and get it running for say 5-600 then ima still be paying insurence and higher gas etc... or pay 600 and then cut some bills from my budget...i also forgot to list the blown stearing rack wich has very bad play in it.. and on the note of the window reg.. i have the entire window system unpluged from the car and i still get the power drain.. its something with the electrical system on the seatbelts... im haveing a hard time finding the layout for the wirieng on it and how to test them... theres other things rong with the car aswell that tick me off....

long story short... i work at walmart... i must have atleast a grand saved by the end of october for an apartment... as my current place will no longer be available.. i have nothing saved for that becuse i keep dumping money into the accord i dumped almost 300 into the accord less then a week before the trans messed up.. i really do want to fix the accord.. but i really think parking it is the best thing or even selling it and looking for another accord or another type of vehicle in better condition

My brother just turned 16 and has made probably $250 buying and selling stuff on ebay. He'd buy a lot of something, then sell it individually. He started out by selling something that he had gotten on clearance at Wal-mart, lol.

Hell, you have an employee discount, right? Does that apply to clearance items? Buy items that are on clearance and then put them on ebay. Start small and work your way up. Supplement this with junkyarding, and you can have $1000 in your pocket pretty quickly.

you can wait tables for a couple of months, the tips add up real quick

It is pretty obivious you hate the car for it's little faults. You obviousley have plenty of support here for getting it squared away.
But you say your circumstances wont let you even look under neath the car like you are doing something to it ! You already regret putting a dime into it !
I guess you're right, just cut your "losses" and regroup again. Get a moped, a raincoat and go to wally world and get wet some more.

I see how you feel man. I don't blame you, if I didn't have money to fix my newly acquired BMW I would give up. It needs front end work(tie rods, control arms, bushings), trans needs fluid and filter, other small gaskets and such, tires. Lots of parts, time and money, but its worth it in the end.

Park the Accord for now and get a Moped. If for some reason you still do not have enough cash at the end of the month, you have the Accord to sell. You may not get a lot for it, but its something.

I already have a trans here. The trans isn't the main problem here.

Have you ever poured everything you make into a relationship just to find out that you're being used to buy him/her nice things? Same kind of deal here. He's been putting a great deal of money into a car that wasn't really all that it was cracked up to be. He doesn't have the money now to fix all of the issues the car has. His best option right now is to sell the car and buy a bike. He can honestly find a better car for the amount of money he's going to put into this one to make it even 80% again. He has to buy all of his parts, unlike some of us that have parts cars available. I've offered my help and even most of the parts needed to fix his car, but he doesn't feel safe in the car until it gets a LOT of suspension work done. You don't buy ball joints in a junkyard for a reason. But right now, I can say I've seen junkyard cars in better mechanical condition, going on his account of the suspension.

Personally, I've parked 2 running 3geez myself under the same circumstances. It happens. You buy a car that isn't as good as you thought, and you lose faith in your decision making for a while. That's what's happened here. He wants to go back to the basics.

I also understand the condition he works in. I did lawn care for a while with my dad. This is Florida. You're going to get wet if you go outside for most of the summer. He works outside, so if it's raining on the way to work, it's going to be raining when he gets there.

If I had the money, I would have bought the car from him when he offered it to me. I'm getting married this Friday, so I can't afford it. I have most of the parts needed to get the car back together, and I have the time, ability, tools, and space to do the work. He only has the ability part on his side right now. As I understand, tools are limited to him as well.

If I had a tow dolly, I would have towed the car up here. Hell, I wouldn't be against changing the trans in a parking lot, but I don't have the ability to tow, he obviously doesn't, most of the people we know lack the equipment to tow, and renting is out of our budgets.

The biggest thing that would help out right now would be for someone to buy his car so that he can move on.

talk to vanilla he's already offered to help, sometimes having a buddy to help work on a car makes it a lot less frustrating. if you get the car back to where it's supposed to be,you might like it more,it probably seems really really slow because of the suspension and steering being so far out.that will tax a lot of your power, because you are wasting it pushing the tires in the wrong direction.

Don't lose the bolts. First time I did my transmission I lost a bolt for it, so I had to go get a matching bolt at Lowes. Also, make sure you loosen the oil fill plug before you drain the transmission. That way you know you can refill it and not drain it then find out your fill plug is stuck.:deal:

I learned the hard way always put in another "NEW" spring when you do a clutch job.

to tell the truth i dont think a new spring was put in.... i had a shop put the new clutch in since it was right when i moved back to florida and i didnt have any tools at the time and he only installed what i had wich was clutch, throwout bearing, presure plate, and rear main seal..

anyways i got started yesterday and hit alot of snags, drained the oil from the trans and it was clean.. hit some snags on getting the axles off damn axle nut is mostly welded onto the axle end.. hammerd down so much, so i figured take the hub out since im doing the suspention anyways and now im haveing problems getting the suspention apart... i need a joint puller or a pickle fork lol..

pics will be comeing

i got one side sorta apart and the axle pulled fro mthe trans, im working on the driver side now... hitting more snags and deff need to go get some type of puller...

on another note i have NEVER done suspention am i going to need a spring compresor when i take this all apart? im getting down to almost nothing left on the hub and seeing that spring there kinda scares me lol

nah not unless ur replacing the shock since the spring is bolted to the shock so as long as u leave the spring attached to the shock u can remove the whole coil over
just remove the 3 bolts up top and the 1 big bolt on the bottom and pull it out
and ps to remove the upper control arms u need to remove the nuts in the engine bay or u will try for hours trying to get that long bolt out

u should get this tool for removeing ball joints and tie rod ends

You didn't have to go through the trouble of taking the whole suspension apart. The way I do it when I pull the trans is I pop the tie rod and lower ball joint. I then pop the axles out of the transmission and pull the passenger axle with the whole knuckle and rest the axle on the radius arm. The drivers axle I take a jackstand, pull the whole knuckle away from the car and put it on the jackstand.

If my mind serves me right when you drop the transmission you will have to lower the fifth gear side first.

Advance Auto has a better kit. I rented the kit when I did the suspension on my BMW, and my brother and I pounded the living shit out of the pickle forks and they didn't have any damage.:flash:

I see, I was to lazy to read the previous posts. As far as suspension bushings, you will need to get them pressed in. My brother and I have tried pressing them in ourselves with no luck. So you're better off finding a shop that will do it for you along with the lower ball joints.

You can get the u-joint press kit and or the Cont arm bushing press kit (and ball joint press kit) from the rentals at autozone or advance as well. I mention the u joint kit because it may have the smaller sizes in it, they are very similar tools anyway. It is free rentals btw you just have to "pay for it" then take it back..nothing shady that is how they do it.

as far as the lower control arm bushings, they will never press out. just put them out somewhere safe, set fire to the rubber part with a propane torch, and when it's burned out, then chisel out the metal sleeve. when the bushing is installed at the factory, the metal is heated and the bushing is frozen,it's an interference fit. it slides right in,until the metal cools and the bushing warms up. you can push the new one in the standard way. actually get some heavy threaded rod, some big fender washers, and nuts to go with the threaded rod. put the rod through the bushing center and the control arm,put a washer or two over each end, and start tightning. the washers will force the bushing into the arm. if you don't want to do this have a suspension shop do it. it takes a couple of minutes with a press. and they probably won't charge much.

One thing you really need to do is put the bolts back in the place you took them from.

They all won't work this way but most will. This way your not trying to bust your skull finding the right bolt.

I use a piece of cardboard as I unbolt the trans I put the bolt into a pattern on the cardboard.

Another way, which is how I did my bushings(rear ones, same principal). I drilled out the rubber and removed the inner metal sleeve. Then took a hack saw and cut a slit in the outer metal casing. Then using socket big enough I hammered out the older sleeve. The cut relieves the tension that holds it on.

Remove the top dogbone mount 5 bolts total (two 12 x 1.25 / three 10 x 1.25

Remove the bottom damper bracket (under transmission) 3 bolts 8 x 1.25

Remove the front transmission mount (connects the transmission to the engine) 3 bolts 10 x 1.25

Remove the 3 bolts connecting the rear transmision mount to the engine 10 x 1.25

Remove the clutch dust cover bottom of the transmission, I believe there are 2 bolt

Remove the starter 2 bolts 10 x 1.25

Remove the last 3 bolts 10 x 1.25 transmission to engine, these are the on the clutch lever/cable side of the transmission.

Now the trans will slide away fron the engine.

russiankid
08-28-2008, 08:11 PM
You need to check for freeplay in the bearing. It shouldn't have any play, if it has play replace it along with the spring. As far as black buildup, I didn't have any type of buildup when I pulled my trans off after I replaced the clutch a year ago. I had some dust from the clutch but it still looked clean. Mark the pressure plate and flywheel with whiteout so you can reinstall it correctly later. It may not make a difference but its a good piece of mind.

A18A
08-28-2008, 08:17 PM
i think you should be able to check the throw out bearing by just spinning it with your finger, if it doesnt feel 100% smooth then it probably is bad, though im sure if it was bad, every time you touch the clutch while the car is running you will hear it making some kinda brushing sound. that build up is probably either old clutch dust that whoever installed the new clutch didnt clean it, or the new clutch sucks, or it wasnt installed properly (ie, tq'd properly) apparently im told that contains asbestos, so dont breathe it in :) jm2cw

Remove the throw out bearing and check it for excessive play. Alot of slop equals bad bearing. It should spin smoothly.

How long ago did you have the clutch done?

To reiterate what was said about the clutch dust, DON'T BREATHE IT IN!!! Use brake cleaner to wash it away.

Make sure you can shift in and out of every gear. It may be a bit tight, but you don't have the leverage you normally would. The shifts should feel pretty crisp. If you absolutely can't get it into any particular gear, then I'm betting you have a bent shift rod.

to test the other gears shift it back to the middle and twist it side to side & up and down like you would as if you where using the shifter. you might need to use a skrewdriver or something for leverage though. also in each gear spin the input shaft and see if the axles move like the should (1 going foward, other going backwards)

If it is an asbestos clutch disk (which I doubt, too many lawsuits) the aerosol will put the finer particles in the air around you. And if you don't have the apropriate respirator, guess where the particles are going. Into the lungs.

Just like the brakes, wet them down first then wash them off. Brakes are exposed to the elements so a dawn water bath will do no harm, then you use the brake cleaner to remove heavier grease deposits,

You don't move the rod up and down when you shift. It only goes side to side in and out. If I remember correctly, rod going to the left and out is first, to the left and in is 2nd, in the center and out is 3rd, in is 4th. 5th is to the right and out, and reverse is to the right and in.

This is if you are looking at the transmission from the back of it where the shifter connects, sitting upright of course the way it would be in the car.

There could be a chance. Give it another try, if you don't have luck then start hunting for a replacement trans.:violin:

I have had my transmission not shift at all on very hot days. I would shift out of fifth and go into 4th and it won't go in. I have to double clutch to make it go into 4th, my guess is a synchro acting up.
