Ok, I've found conflicting information. Will the '88-'89 LXi brakes (caliper + bracket) bolt to the '88 LX knuckle or not?

No. You need the knuckle along with the calipers, and rotors. Just go to the junk yard, and pull the knuckle with the brakes still attached. As long as the brakes are okay it'll only take a couple of hours to get it all installed.

Don't forget that you need the master cylinder as well.

^^ yep, that and the proportioning valve. Although I'm not sure you need the prop valve unless you're doing rear discs.

I believe they are all the same except the SE-i one. However, you can still use the non SE-i one. I have rear disc brakes with LX MC and prop valve and no issues.

^^ true you can. I have the se-i MC, but an lx-i prop valve, and everything feels awesome.
