my favourite wheels are these ones:
http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/6967/blackhonda020vi4.jpg
i think they're integra ls wheels or something, but it really comes down to personal taste. some wwill like 20" chromes, some will like standard ones.

Yeah I know. You want something probably lightweight too huh? I'd check out tirerack.com they got some cheaper rims on there.

Is it better to get 17's or 18's (they look nice)

Is it better to get 17's or 18's (they look nice)

I have seen both on here. They both look real nice. The biggest deal with the 18's is offset and tire size to make them work the best. You might have to do a search for wheels on the site...

As a rule, bigger rims will be more expensive, heavier, more prone to bending and likely to make for a harsh ride.

On the other hand, they look great, so who cares?

05-07-2008, 09:13 PM
you should go for a 15" or 16"

17" is a pretty big for our cars

check out Rota's and the Tire Rack

yeah if you want light weight and have a decent size get 15s...plus the tires are cheaper than bigger sizes

fifteens with nice thin spokes so they dont look to heavy
5 or seven spokes look best in my opinion
the 3g accords are a well proportioned car , a set of wheels that are to big make the car look small and out of proportion and fat spokes make the look bottom heavy.
go to a shop that has the photoshop type thingee and try diff wheels on virtually before you buy

Honestly I like the Honda Civic Si rims....(fat 5's), have them powdercoated or just leave them as is and have them static balanced...they would look sweet on a hatch. Just an opinion though.

^^ geddy you can bake a pizza in that geez. but back on topic wat color is the car? i dont recomend anything above 16. also something to consider is the larger the rim you get the car will have a harder time accelerating. example i used to have my steelies and i used to be able to burn out in those and then i got the LS mesh and burn outs are a no go. so my launching wasnt that great, got alot of bog.

and now i cannt even burn out if i tried

it also depends on the weight of the rim...but yeah you are right....in 1st gear with my stock rims if i punched the gas it would chirp out...now i cant...cuz of the weight of the rims and wider tires...plus the tires are more sport tires so they are more sticky...you guys will see what im rolling on the next next meet

the best i have seen in person is the 15" motegi trak lites on rendon-lxi's car. that looked amazing.

otherwise I like slips and simple/light wheels like that. the 3g can't pull off too crazy of wheels so its good to keep a nice low key clean style on there..

i would avoid 18's like the plague. too big for our cars.

I have a set of 17's, which IMO is the biggest anyone should go on the 3G. The car sits on 15's right now, which are the track and everyday rims

EDIT: Here's a link to Steve's 'problem' with wheels. The first pic has 14" 2nd Gen Teg wheels. The rest, well... ...just read it, you'll see. He's done everything from 14" through 17" (the 17's are mine).

Well I look at different things when choosing rims. Some questions to ask yourself are: Is your car stock height? Do you plan on lowering it? Are you planning on repainting it in the future? Do you wanna have what everyone else has? Or do you want to be different and express your own style? Answering these questions should narrow down your choices. Do you have any pics of the car?

That's always what I've heard too, but surprisingly when I took my BMW from 16" wheels to 20" wheels I had no change in ride quality. It rode just as nice on 20s as it did on the stockers. The one exception was potholes.. they definitely gave you more of a jarring impact when you hit them heh. But regular ride quality was great.

id say 17-18s with a fatty dish even on a FWD offset. Drop the car respectfully. 1 inch isnt noticable and not worht the funds. I had to tell the wifey I lowered her car, she didnt even tell. 2-2.5 is a good drop but most kits I think require Jims pinchfork mod. Im washing and waxing the hatch tomorrow but its not lowered yet but Ill try to snap some pics if I get a chance either way.

The littler the wheel the more tire causeing a smoother ride. Ive been track tuned for years and love the feel of the road. If it were me Id hang a bottle of glue over my tires and see what they could take in every situation.

It is such an open question isn't it. You should get what you like basically. If not see as much as picture of 3rd gen with alloy wheel and decide what is your favourite ones.

I know it is totally up to you but this is what I consider if I get wheel - if the reason is for pure cosmetic, just get 17 or what ever it fits.

However, if you do get big big wheel and the wheel can show the brakes through spokes, make sure you have big brake disk upgrade or it will look a bit sad - the reason to get bigger wheel is to accomodate big brake disks, full stop(apart from looks). As someone mention above, big wheels are heavier compare to smaller wheel with same design and that will make the car slow literally. Only the benefit apart from cosmetic is the big brake disk=greater stopping power, that what Porsche has started wearing big wheels with low profile P7 tyres in 70's.

If the performance is the reason for the alloy wheel, I would say same size as original say 13 or 14. But 15 would be good compromise between cosmetic and performance. Below is my previous 15 inch wheel and I chose it for cosmetic and practicality with tyre choice (there is little choice with 14inch). These are Renault Clio OEM=heavy slow but ultra cheap. Ronal does similar ones. I know these are a bit old school but that is the exact point I chose them.

Below is my friends 16inch Hartge type ultra light wheel. (he is lucky having 2 pod caliper) carotman has similar ones.

On 3geez, I personally like thegreatdane's deepdish wheels on his sedan and picopop's back and silver wheel. I am not big fan of shining and grittering wheels as that will overshadow our car unless you have done some modification on the upper body - just my personal opinion:D

this is what i'm searching for, 92-96 corolla wheels, or 97 geo prism wheels, painted argent silver, beauty rings, H caps, and BF goodrich radial TA tires with the raised white letters. Old school, if you weren't running alloys in the 80's you had nicely painted wheels with beauty rings, or you had plain boring looking hubcaps. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd158/lostforawhile/corollawheel.jpg yes i brought it back from the dead, this topic is never really dead

oh i was going to paint them, thats what they look like stock, the argent silver is that old silver that looks like older honda wheels and then you add the chrome beauty rings. for some reason the raised white letters look good on a hatchback, I used to have a set. if you paint a set of wheels right they look completely different.

I also got rid of all the sound deadning materials. If I remember right, when I weighed all the ac stuff, it weighed almost as much as another person.

anyone know the bolt pattern and off set of a porsche 924, 1982 model, they look like front wheel drive offsets, 4 lug, beautiful wheels there is a set on an 82 at the yard, been sitting in mud for probably ten years.

I think they are 4x108...or at least any info I could find says 4x108.

I'm going to second cubert on that one. 4x108.

Corona (pretty sure) is 4x100, but the offset on those is way different than the 3G. Might work though. But remember, as soon as you do the 88-89 lx-i brake upgrade, or if you have an 88-89 lx-i/se-i, 14" is the smallest you can go.

Anyone want to try these? OEM brand-spanking-new Honda 13" alloys. This is the OG look. Get some insanely wide GT Radials with raised white lettering

^ i almost got a set of riken's in gold, they were the 15" version, guy didn't want to part with them so i traded my 13" bbs basketweaves for his borbet type t's that i have now.

i think mesh anything looks great on the accords, i think some BBS RS 15" in gold on a white accord with black bumpers and molding would be beautiful. maybe with some window visors and some power folding mirrors and a lip... damn i'm gonna have to find me a white coupe.
