Holy shit man! That looks sweet!!! Nice work!! Absolutely stunning! Those old valve covers are so sexy with all their nice smooth curves. The A series ones are so square and high tech looking. Love for the old school.

I think it would look even better if you polished the "Honda"

I still need to repaint my chopped air cleaner and timing belt cover.

And I think I'm gonna leave the "Honda" as is. The raised letters are too rounded and won't look good if sanded, plus the valve cover is made of steel and it will rust, unless I put another layer of clear on it.

And oh its leaking a bit. I need to put that whatever that called stuff you put on the gasket lol

Damn man looks great in your engine bay! Really goes great with those wires, radiator cap and battery too!

LOL yeah yellow=fast!!!

What I should repaint my air cleaner cover with? I'm pretty sure orange would look meh.. Flat black maybe?

Rattle canned my air cleaner with chrome paint. Its pretty shiny actually. Painted black the huile cap as well lol

Still need to wash the whole engine bay, repaint the grey patch where the rust hole was welded, replace any old looking bolts/hose clips with shiny new ones, clean/repaint metal piece under the carb and get that cool looking spark plug cable clips and it should be done!

Thats effin nice man. That red-orange looks like it could be a Hugger Orange 'Pearl'. I like that chrome paint too. I've used it before, even though I knew it wouldn't be 'chrome'. It kinda looks like platinum when it dries.
My EK1 will never look this good lol!

Nice work.
Now that's a reminder I must paint my air-cleaner too...But I've already gone silver on my cam cover (outlining the "HONDA" in black for contrast).
Shame we missed out on the cool alloy cam-cover of the 76-78 EF-EG -which I assume won't fit EK-EL.
And MUST do something about my leaky oil cap seal like you did too.

The other thing I'd like to do in my engine bay, is take that big-ass wiring harness that runs along the top of the firewall, and tuck it into the cowl area. Seems like it would be easy enough to do.

79cord
05-13-2008, 02:59 PM
Regarding hiding firewall wiring I thought about that too.
But I ended up taking the Idea a few steps further & pulling that entire left side engine bay wiring loom back into the cabin before drilling a hole in the firewall to route it inside the left chassis rail & out at the frt end by the bumper mount (for lighting) and at an existing hole by the alternator for that connection. Required a bit of bashing [with screwdriver] at an internal reinforcement towards the frt of the chassis rail though.

But from the sounds of the recent threads about burnt alternator wiring I possibly should have upgraded that first !
Not so easy now.

Hazwan
05-13-2008, 03:45 PM
Thanks guys. I'd love to tuck my wirings, but then the engine bay is already cluttered with A/C stuffs so it won't make any noticeable difference. I've tucked my alarm siren though :)

And yeah no more leaks, yay!

Hey John, remember that factory chrome valve cover on that Canadian 1g car with the EK1 and the weird backwards mounted alternator? Did you have a picture of that somewhere? It was from when we went to that scrapyard in Salmo.

Yeah all gone. :(

You know what I just noticed? That alternator is mounted where Hazwan's A/C pump is mounted. Probably the same bracketry.

Hazwan
05-13-2008, 09:55 PM
Yeah appears to be the exact same bracket. And the A/C compressor is mounted down below, where my alternator goes. Why would they do that?

Speaking of brackets, I need to get non-PS alternator bracket, they look funny without PS pump attached.

79cord
05-13-2008, 11:14 PM
That's the normal Air-con layout, at least on all I've ever seen.
Though obviously Hazwan's is an exception to that.
I thought it made sense because AC compressor was heavier & would be less affected by possible water splashing... & alternator might be more likely to need service access.

Whole A/C idea definately complicates working on the engine though.

Looks stunning in a picture, too. You should be fine without the paint coating cracking due to heat. I doubt the valve cover gets much over 180 degrees F; regular paint should adhere just fine even at that temp. Looks tight meng.

Nice valve cover. Was that automotive based paint.....or out of a regular spray can?

I am doing my oil pan, distributor cap and timing belt cover tomorrow in a bright metallic blue in a Acryllic Enamel. I will post pics when done.
