hi guys, my fist post so a little backstory is in order

ive been into/worked on hondas ever since i started driving (8 years now). last month i wrecked my 99 civic si, a firehose did it in. after all the money i have invested and lost ive moved to a $500 87 accord lx-i hatch. it needed a little work and have completed most of it so far.

now to the problems

i have an idle problem along with a CEL, i get 12 blink witch is the EGR valve. what i want to complete is a IACV and EGR cleaning, the helms books says to let a dealership handle it :blah:, and searching here i cannot find a how-to, i know where they are located but there is much more involved than just taking it apart im sure. thanks for all the help guys

:welcome: Sorry to hear about the problems but I know what you mean, My ECU is throwing a code 12 as well and I still have to install my "new" egr valve that I got from a fellow member in hopes of it solving the issue.
You found a great place full of help, oh and dont forget to post up some pics :)

if you still have your si you should just swap your engine into the accord

well, i was following a firetruck and a 400 yard long hose along with metal rings went flying all over the interstate. my car hit about 5 of those rings and destroyed the engine. it was a total loss :burn:

i do have pics of that

Ouch, beyond the underside being all bent up it looks like the bottom of the engine block got a crack in it too if im seeing things right....bust up the bottom end internals of the engine? You had a very hot Civic I must say too :) Hopefully its in some way saveable.

Oh god! It hurts me just to look at that. Yeah, I'd say the crank is buggered up real good judging by how mangled that oil pan is.

There was a thread on here not long ago about code 12 and bad EGRs. I just spent about 10 minutes searching for (and not finding) it. Anyway, reaching back into my memory here, I believe the starting point was to remove the valve and clean it real good. If you still get the code, then full replacement is in order.

Good luck.

i looked for the link to the instruction givin to me when i had to do it but could'nt find them. basically just take them off and clean them with carb cleaner or somthin similar, rrepeat let em dry reassemble
