i have an 87 accord hatch with a BT engine in it, and its backfiring thru the intake, it will rev up to 5k rpm but it will not go any further and if it does it backfires.... does anybody have any idea of why is it doing this?

i would say your timing is pretty screwed, eithier it's not set right, or your timing belt has slipped. what did you do before it started this?

nothing, i did absolutely nothing, i bought the engine like that and thats how its sitting on it right now, i played with the timing a little but it only gets worse, it drives good enogh to get from a to b, but not for speed or good acceleration

Leaning out? Fuel pump problem maybe? Check your spark plugs, and firing order. After checking plugs, run it in the dark and look for spark leakage or crossfiring along your plug wires and distributer cap. Basic shit.
