hey i think we went off topic before on this, which is why the old thread was closed, i started this thread just to report wierd problems, i'm hoping they can be used to identify problems when they start happening, then they can get fixed right away. lets keep this on topic and keep it simple, if the board is doing something strange, report it plain and simple, then the mods can look at whats going on and maby figure out what the problem is. thanks.

I tried to post in Lost's tool thread, and got a database error.

I ran a test post that worked. But see below.

i still get that when i go to the off topic section

I ran a database repair. It may have fixed some of the posting issues.

Fixed again. Anytime the search goes down, you can still use the Google search on the main page. It probably does a better job anyway.

same here, twice yesterday I worked on a post just to lose it all with the error page
ok, whatever "this is" seems to be happening more than just a couple of times a week and "management" gives off the impression it is all just a PITA to deal with anything, so I guess with the site it's just as unreliable as an early model Hyundai it's time to move on.

:O you have more posts than me! (just noticed) i think it would be a good idea to stick a link to a backup forum on that database error page or something

So are all the issues with the site worked out yet? Mods, admins?

I believe there was a mix up. When I contacted support about our problem he said that our site was flagged for suspension but he didn't have any notes on it so he looked into it and restored it. Couple that with the fact that only the board folder was deleted, and I believe another website on our server had a bad script or something that was taxing the server and was marked for deletion. someone just screwed up on the wrong site

Cool. So the issues are pretty much someone else's mistakes

something must have happened with the database error that caused the database error to malfunction causing the piston to fly up and hit the database error which caused the database error belt to break. causing a chain reaction database error or someone dropped a donut into the server

marc49
07-26-2008, 06:33 PM
there seems to be a sporadic problem with our database. I'm not sure what's causing the issue. It could be hacks, it could be something else. Once I ran a database repair tool on the server, the site came back up. The database error's don't seem to be related to anything with the server. It's a code issue that we need to get resolved.

I run my own Apache server in my room, decicated with a 7mb down 3mb up connection, I will host this site on it free if needbe, or at least as a redundant clone..

what is the deal with their server? it was off line again. anytime you see the message the server is taking too long, thats their issue.

Have we grown to the point where we are overtaxing their server? Maybe a dedicated server is needed at this point.

this site isn't THAT big, there is no reason a professional hosting company can't handle a site this size.

If we share the server (we are on a shared server, though I thought we were supposed to be on a dedicated server), then we could simply be bogging it down and causing issues like this. These probably aren't top-of-the-line, brand new servers.

I think for any more discussion about this, we should be using the foundation forum, instead of this one. We've gone down the same path with other comments, and we seem to keep going down that path.
