I have new cap, rotor, plug wires and plugs. When trying to time the engine with my timing light i only see the timing marks intermittenly.I might see it every 15 or 20 seconds, some times i can not see it at all. What would cause this to happen. Thanks,Mark

Hi Oldblue, not sure i understand your reply.when the car is running it seems to have good vacuum. When i remove the lines from the vacuuum advance it almost kills the engine.Mark

OK when you time the engine you need both lines to the distibutor plugged off and your timing light(pick-up) clip must be on the #1 cylinder plug wire. The car needs to be warmed up and the idle need to be correct as well. If you don't have all that your readings might be messed up.

Yes to all of the above.the idle is a little high at 800 rpm,but it never has gone down to 750.
