I have obtained the Accord manuals with all of the supplements, but am not finding information on the 88-89 LXI idle air control system. Even the 88 and 89 supplements refer to the same idle air controls devices on 87 and earlier LXIs. My 88 LXI has one idle air control device on the center of the intake manifold. Does anyone know where a manual for troubleshooting this idle air control system is?

Sounds like you're referring to the manuals available from this site. Consider getting the right manual for your car from helminc.com. You're delving deep enough to justify getting the correct American-spec version in printed form. I think you'll have a lot better luck.
