Traction Bar / Crossmember

Today i took out my front crossmember to do come work not the front motor mount and my crossmember broke:uh:

Ok this is what happen i cut i piece out of the frame to make the down pipe fit from the turbo but i did weld a new piece in but tme frame started to crack by the driver side traction bar and it crack all the way around:eek:i did not notice it untel i took it out:sad2:i am glad did, Think if it broke while i was driving:eek:i would have been toast:crying:

sweet setup only when you biuld me mine can you offset the crossmember to the front of the car more creating a larger gap for downpipe clearances. i can have longer and larger radius rods made to work with the longer stroke. It looks good. Ive been chating with the company from auburn about them trying to make us a kit. If you decide to start order let me know, i jst need a rough weld and mount, Ill paint. Looks great tommy

Also, how did you set the angle/spacing/positioning of your brackets for the radius rods? Their position affects the position of the front wheel, as well as caster and a variety of other things.

I am curious about this also. I would have built one of these already, but I ran out of money for my turbosystem, so my car is still n/a right now, and my header just barely clears my oem crossmember..but I kinda doubt my downpipe will.

I wasn't talking about he cost of building the crossmember, i just meant that I didn't need to build it yet because I ran out of money for my tubo setup, which would need the crossmember for clearance..but what I wanted to know was how you aligned the pieces that hold the radius arms, I have a few ideas on that, but I'm still curious how you did it.

I'm guessing that if you had the car on the ground and just took out the crossmember, the wheels would move a little front or back in the wheelwells, and you would lose the ability to use the previous location of the radius rod's end as a template/positioner for the new piece, how much of there is a tendency for this to happen? I know it wouldn't happen if you had the brakes locked on with the car on the ground when you pulled the crossmember, thennothing could move, but how would you do that.. So what did you do, just take extremely careful measurements? I'm guessing you didn't try to copy/measure from your original crossmember, given its condition..

Not like I really need an answer to this question or anything, lol, obviously I can figure it out my own way, I'm just curious how you did it. I do like you design overall though, although mine would be biased farther forward with longer "extensions" or whatever you'd call them, for more downpipe clearance.

And I almost forgot, did you upgrade to poly radius arm bushings?

I used my other Accord as reference. its nice to have two Accord's. and for the poly radius arm bushings not yet.

I'd recommend mild steel, 1010 or 1020. It welds easily, and has an excellent fatigue life and resists stress and breakage.

ive been wanting to build somthing like this for about 5 years now. My front crossmember is cut up like yours is, its not cracked but i cant imagine its anywhere near as strong as the one you have here... how long did that take to build? Interested in making another one?
