I need an engine for my car and I have been hunting for a while. Well I found the $150.00 ones from pull-a-part and $300.00 ones from other junkyards that have already been pulled, $550.00 ones from JDM dealers that want a deposit before they will order overseas and one in Marietta that claims he has one left and he will sell the motor for $850.00. His name is Tom and his business is called American Engines. Anybody ever heard of this guy? He wants $1750.00 for a complete install and a one year unlimited mile warranty. Is this a decent deal? How do I tell the difference between a JDM and a USDM; is it stamped on it anywhere? Give me the low down, I dont want to do anything stupid.

the jdm ones are either just A18A, A20A, B18A or B20A, they dont have a number on the end like the usdm ones do (ie: A20A1, A20A3). might pay to find someone with a good reputation

Does anyone have a reputable used JDM or USDM engine seller you would be willing to recommend?

I would say you could find and excellant bottom end at the pull a part, I have seen bunches. You gotta know though most of them probably made it there cuz of blowed head gaskests though.
You could get any used motor though and it could blow the gasket shortley after you get it, so going ahead and taking care of that would be smart to do before even trying to run one.
There is a JDM in north Atlanta called Jayco, you could try them. Get a warrenty on anything even if it is only 30 days, so you don't get stuck with a bad block/crank.
