Hello everyone,

About a year ago, my alternator failed so I replaced it with a brand new one from AutoZone. It has been functioning flawlessly until about a week ago.

When I start my car now, the battery light is almost always lit up. I’ve taken a voltmeter under the hood and it is definitely not charging. However, after driving it for about 30 to 45 mins it ALWAYS turns off and the car will start charging just fine.

My original thought was that the new alternator had failed, I took it out and went to AutoZone and they tested it, it is working just fine.

I have no clue where to even look now? Is there a relay that controls the charging system that could be going bad?

Any advice would be great!!

Thanks!

check your grounds and battery terminals...i like to clean mine with sandpaper and make sure they are tight.

Clean your terminals and check your alt connectors.

It sounds like your internal voltage regulator has gone bad. I would suggest to take it to another Autozone & have them check it again. Does the battery light goes away after revving it?

What were your battery numbers not running and then running?

Remember to keep it simple. Check to stupid stuff first.

12.4 and falling when started and the battery light is on. 14.1 when the battey light is off after the car has been running for about 30 to 45 mins.

From your numbers it does sound like its not charging. I would just swap it out with another if you can. Just watch for loose connections first.
