So the question is? Or is this just to inform us?

Make sure you do it right so you won't waste money. By all means follow the torque procedure in the shop manual.

To have more compression you can use a thinner gasket, but I personally wouldn't on a stock engine.

Bars leak is my diagnosis for your head gasket blowing. What was leaking that you had to use bars leak?

These head gaskets don't go that easily.

These head gaskets don't go that easily. the head gasket blew back a few months ago could not afford to fix it and it was the only car at the time so i could not have it down for a few weeks so i used the bars leak it worked up untill now but i noticed it pluged up some of the coolant passages that i had to clean out

Make sure you flush this block well.

Yeah, coolant blew into the oil. Clean all the carbon off them valves before you install the head. Clean that coolant out real good & flush the oil out the pan with some seafoam. Be careful not to nick the aluminum head to bad with a razor. I would straight edge that head & make sure their is not cracks in it. Shops do a magni-flux for cracks, but cost money. Not trying to tell you what to do, but a few tips I thought I'd throw in there.
I'm not so sure about them ebay head gaskets, it says graphite, but I trust Fel-pro myself. Anyhow, good luck with it.

It's you Forrest, isn't it? :D

CAH, the reason that one cylinder is clean is because you were burning the water in it. Steam has some seriously amazing cleaning properties. Misting a little water into your intake is an old-school way to clean out carbon buildup. Probably works better than that bullshit Seafoam.

Also, after my recent experience, I'd say avoid that cheap-o gasket kit. I'm positive thats why my headgasket blew. My car runs about 10x better than it ever did with the new FelPro gasket in it. Of course, if you're selling the car, then I guess it won't matter.

Good work knocking that task out BTW!

Yeah cheap gasket set will get you by for a while. Long enough to sell it even... hehe

I was just reading about blown head gaskets on the early E-series motors. Possibly the head bolts do actually stretch... hope this gasket lasts a while... :-\

yeah I thought something good was coming out of this story

Didnt I read where you sold this car CAH?

2ndGen head bolts do stretch ( and the holes?) and then others are actually designed to stretch. You should use special head bolt washers when you have milled the head so many times and dont forget to clean out those bolt holes, align those dowels, and torque it back in at least three equal steps leading up to 50 ft lbs (or what ever it is)
