View Full Version : anyone relocated their stereo above the climate controls?

I think it's absolutely retarded how my hatch has the stereo under the climate controls..I guess in 1987, people changed the settings on the climate controls more than on the stereo? You know, since all the 80s music was so good? (trying not to puke)
It also places the stereo in the ideal location for flying out and smashing my hand into the shifter. (not anymore. Steady improvements to my motor mounts have finally eliminated that, thank goodness.)
Anyway, I'm going to do this to my car, my dash is already kind of screwed up from when some dickless pieces of shit stole my stereo years ago, so f it, some fiberglass/bondo could do it good.
Anyone else do this yet?

p.s. Sorry if there are multiple pics of this floating around already, I guess I was just feeling too lazy to search..

jsut go to a stereo shop with the climate controls and look through the metra adapters till you find on that looks about the same size trust me you will find one lol then just figure out how to put it on
ive actually thought about this but it would put my radio more in the open lol

If I were to relocate my radio I'd put it where my cupholders are and get the Honda DIN delete plate. I love the way that looks.

Very doable.

just have to extend the wire harness for the hvac maybe along with the one cable for the hot/cold slider. well thats lxi if you have a dx it 'll be all cables and one plug I think.

A little plastic epoxy or fiberglass to mold and it shouldnt be that hard at all.

One thing to look out for is that maybe there isnt enough space for the radio to sit all the way back without hitting the blower.

Do a quick photoshop. :)

ah I kinda like where the stock controls are cause my oldschool cdx-c90 has a rotary remote that I use most of the time when anything needs to be changed. but if it wasnt for that and had a flip out or maybe a double din I would have surely moved the controls down long ago.

You guys are talking about cupholders..I don't have any cupholders. You can't drink and drive in my car anyway. Unless you like chipped front teeth, a bleeding lip, or a spilled drink. I really need to upgrade my suspension.
But anyway, glad I'm not the only one who's thought of doing this. I will do it when I get a new head unit. Might be a while though.

Can't win 'em all. There really isn't a 100% perfect way to put a motorized screen in our cars without some serious work.

The screen gets in the way of the vents.........:hmph:

you only use the screen when parked. its dangerous and illegal around here to do that while driving

Now adays half the vehicles come with a 7 inch in dash gps hvac screen right in the middle of the dash.

Now if someone would be dumb enough to look at the screen prolonged while driving that would be on them  lol

Call me weird, but I hate anything resembling a TV screen in a car. Both my cars are pre-GPS and I love that.
