also, what all kind of tuning do i have to do to the carb, or is it ready to run?

itzdave

yay... today i find out that the kit they sent me didnt come with the little bracket thingy that holds the throttle cable. GHEY!

2oodoor
09-25-2008, 03:39 AM
are you gonna get one or what ? looks like you put the oem cable retainer on the shaft, good.
NO NEVER USE RTV anywhere around the carburator, EVER

If you must use some thing to assit, the only thing I would use is permatex hitack. Not enough to oouz or anything.

Do you now what jetting it has in it? YOu should be able to carefully take the top hat off with out damaging the gasket, they usually come apart with out having to repl gasket. Just be real carefull not to bend the float hanging assy. You can then screw out the mains inside the bowl, then the air correctors ..under those are the emulsion tubes... document all the numbers. Good thing about the 38 is you cant mix them up cux both sides are the same. You can unscrew the idle jets from either sides on the outside and read those. then the pump jet, is just the squirter thing just in front of the air correctors, you can read that one without removing it.

hey thanks roodoo2. yea i used the oem linkage with a little cuttin and bendin to get it just right. but right now im fabbin up a throttle cable holder, so far so good. but about tuning, i meant as far as rich/lean, and idle control stuff... but i got that all figured out already.
and thanks for the tip about the RTV, but just out of curiousity, why should i not use RTV, does it mix bad with the fuel or somethin...

no it doesnt stand up to gas, and it can get in your carb which will really screw things up . A carb has tiny passages all thru it that silcone will clog up.

09-25-2008, 08:16 AM
right on. well, just got the bracket fabbed up, now i just gotta clean it up a lil bit and thrrow that biotch on there...
thanks again roodoo2, U RAWK!

you are going to need some kind of return spring too, advance auto and them sell those spring assortments. You may have to be creative in an anchor for the spriong

fill up the water hole under the carb on the intake manifold?

last one I did I just tapped the hole with threads and used a long set screw and just let it go on in some below the flange
before was using jb weld

YAY!!! finally got it runnin, now i just need to do a lil tuning and 'Lea' will be ready to roll.
so what screw do i turn, the one in front or the one in the back? (38/38 weber)
and by the way, it started right up, and when i started givin it a lil gas, it sounded SOOO badass!!! and that was with the filter on it too... but yea, i know where the idle control screw is, but i dunno about the mixture onew in the ones in the front and rear???????????? help me a lil please?????

2oodoor
09-27-2008, 01:50 PM
you must adjust the throttle idle control screw as low rpm as you can so that is will still run anyway. THEN adjust both of the air mixture screws, there is one for each barrel.
These adjustments can really affect how well the car runs thru all ranges. The idea is to have the least amount of opening at the throttle adj screw as possible and the air screws should not be more than one full turn out. DO not use a screwdriver if you can help it because turning those in to bottom out can mess the tips up, in other words do not bottom those out hard at all, feel it stop and STOP.. lol (edit, use a pocket screwdriver or a stubby if you must)

Im sure it is a blast to drive, be warned that your gas mileage now ranges from 10 to 30 depending how much noise it makes. It is real hard leaving work and not making it sound like a built teggy with v turk...its like dr jekyll mr hyde
and pulling in fifth gear from 40mph is what really is amazing about this thing.

I was looking at the engine pics of the one with the weber and what happen to the big black box for all the vac lines? is the something that can replace that?

That's the beauty of the weber, the black box of mystery and all those vac lines go bye bye. That was the best part of the install in my eyes, getting to rip all those now useless bits out of there!
