hi, i was just thinking of chopping a coil off the OEM springs in my car. i then remembered that my friend's ferio had his springs compressed instead of cut. they used some angular piece of metal box shaped with an opening enough to hold about 2.5 springs tightly in place but not enough for it to come off. then they used a heavy duty vice to compress the spring and slip the the metal box (i have no idea wat to call it but it looks like a man made un adjustable vice) between the last two springs and u have lowered springs. it seems simple and the best part is that its reversible. it would get an effect equivalent to that of chopping the springs by a coil or so. however i doubt i would encourage this method for anyone wanting more than a 3cm drop in height. i wanted to know if anyone had done this? any other details or pointers would help as i am planning to do this to my car....

Don't. What would happen if the springs somehow get uncompressed when driving? Stock prings are cheap. I have couple of them if you want. No idea how old are they anyway.

Proper lowering springs>cut springs>heated springs>compressed springs.

ok. well im a serious newbie to the world of mods....restoration is more my thing. well, 1st things 1st, what are coil overs? looking at the gizmo on my friend's ferio coils, it seems pretty secure as it uses some real think metal and mechine pressed into place.

Coilover refers to adjustable spring height through use of threaded sleeve that fits over stock/aftermarket shocks. The original term of coilover actually means coil spring over strut and are misused to refer as adjustable spring height instead.

But please, never compress your springs no matter how good the gizmo thinggy are used.

Imagine going over speedbump at 100km/h.. Thats what its going to fell like when that gizmo failed.

And never heat the springs either as they alter the metal properties, making them weaker. I've seen heated springs broke, and you dont want them to happen while driving.

But if you insist on having the look of lowered car, the best sloution here is to chop the stock prings as we can never get aftermarket springs for 1geez, unless they are modified from other models. The worst can happen wiht chopped springs are your shocks may go out faster and poor ride quality. But be reasonable with amount of coils removed. 1-2 coils are acceptable IMO.

But I'd say leave it stock. Stock ride height isn't that bad.

yup. now that i think about it i oughtta just cut my coils up. weird part is that the modified street racers in indonesia use the method i mentioned earlier to lower their car. the have no idea what could happen. gd think i got advice from u guys. neway, do take care...
