So after a tow and about an hour and a half dealing with AAA, I now have to replace my alternator. I was wondering for those who have had this issue before, what to expect from a mechanic along the lines of time and cost, because I totalllly cannot do this one myself. Help?

I would guess a shop is probably going to ding you for and 3hrs to do it, so depending on what their labor rate is probably around 300$ And they're going to mark that alternator up to probably 150$. I'm guessing you're looking at 500$ by the time you're done.
This is why it really pays to be able to do the work yourself.
Good luck.

If you have basic mechanical skills you can probably do this yourself. You will need some sockets, a ratchet, torque wrench, and ball joint separator. You will need to pop the lower ball joint on the spindle and move the whole spindle towards the rear of the car(may be front). Then the alternator comes out. Overall this will save you a few $100.
