Had my 87 accord lx a few months and the whole time the cigarette lighter has not worked. I could not care about the cigarette lighter not working, but I would like to be able to charge my phone or GPS, etc. I have checked all the fuses twice and they are fine. My mechanic said the same thing and suggested just replacing the cigarette lighter. Is this expensive and/or complicated? Thanks

Have you checked behind it to make sure the wires are hooked up/undamaged? That's where I'd go next if the fuses are good.

Easy swap, just take your time and don't break the facing plate.

Is it easy to remove? I'm assuming my chiltons manual will have some details, but you guys are my first insight.

Doubtful, I even have the Honda manual and random things like that tend to not be in there haha. Really easy, I'll go look at mine real quick and tell you how to get it out.

lol, those sneaky bastards. Any idea as to the cost of a knew one? And I'm going to assume the best place would be to go is kragen, unless you know any place better. My wallet is in your hands.

Any junkyards or pick and pulls in your area? That would be the first place I would go for something as odd as that. I can check a few places online real quick for ya. You're lucky you caught me on a day where I have absolutely nothing to do lol.

Have you checked the fuse for interior lights? It is located under the hood. The interior lights and cigarette lighter share the same fuse.

u can go to walmart and pick up a universal one there the same size and fit in just like the oem one and they should be under $10

just my luck! lol, I'm in san francisco, closest pick and pulls are over an hour away, and I'm attempting one of those junk yard searches, see how that goes.

x2 on that. Forgot about the easy alternative. As long as you're familiar with splicing wires then you should have no problem. Some of them probably even slide right on to existing connectors.

it will probably be the ground wire behind the cigarette lighter, or a dash loom ground, thats usually the problem or corroded contacts on the cigarette lighter socket.

^ x2. There's a Pick-N-Pull in Oakland (probably closer to SF than a Wal-Mart!), but pull it apart and look things over before spending money.
