ok.i went to a tire shop, got a quote on some decent tires, Firestone Firehawk Gt. for the stock rim, P195/60/R14 85H.
i asked if i could get a wider tire for the 14inch rim... he pretty much had a fit and STRONGLY disagreed with doing it b/c there werent any updates on wider tires for the 88 LX-i in the system.
dispite that,
He did some research and found Hankook 205/60/14 he said that the tire was basicly 11 or so mm. wider and taller. he wasnt sure if these tires would fit and told me if i had a weak/worn suspension it would rub and since that was a factor any warrentee on the tire would be null.

both tires are around the same price... and have the same wear, hankook. 40k tire firehawk 50k tire... $360+/- set of four with installation.

soo my question is... can i run the 205/60/14 with out any issues???

I could not find that size in 14"

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?width=195%2F&ratio=60&diameter=14&manufacturer=Hankook&startIndex=0&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&x=13&y=15

195/60/14 sound fimiliar to me. You can pull up the tire specs on tirerack and compare the sizes compared to the orginal size etc. If you can I think you would be happy with the 205/50/15.

I am looking at the Sumitomo HTR-z atm for dragon tail season coming up but they dont have 14" sizes. Try and see what the autocrossers are using.

A wider tire won't do as much as getting a stickier tire, IMO. I've got 185's on my Miata but they have a 300 treadwear rating. The 205s on my Accord have a 420 treadwear, but still don't stick nearly as well as the tires on the Miata. Just food for thought.

Get some stickier stock sized tires or something with a bit softer compound. Maybe go up to 195s if they'll warranty the tire size... Don't ditch the warranty. Free mounting / balancing / hole repair has come in handy so many times for me, it's not even funny.

If you're not worried about warranty, get some Falken Azenis. They've got like a 200 treadwear or something nutty. They're practically r-comps for the street, but they make them in 14s that will fit your rim, and at least give you some warranty. They'll stick way better than those listed.

Look into Kumho tires. I have them on my Bimmer, and they keep that tank gripped to the road.

I second the Azenis. I have them I my car in 215/45-16. They're sticky as hell, and I paid 100 bucks a tire for them. I was worried that they'd have horrible wet traction since they practically look like a racing slick, but they were surprisingly sticky even in wet weather.

+1 The wider tire on the same rim will make the car feel a little more vague in transitions as well.

Dunlop driezza z1's are an awesome tire if you have the time to heat them up (e.g. not the best choice for auto-x), supposed to be the closest thing to r-compounds, they come in 205/50 16s.

well 40 is the offset for our cars. if this is 35 isnt that too small... or small enought to not fit or rub the caliper???

this might help:
www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

personally i dont think 5mm is going to cause you any problems with rubbing, but if the rims are wider there might be some rubbing.

best tire size on a 3g imo is 205/50/15

MessyHonda
10-22-2008, 11:45 PM
the size does not mater its all about the grip of the tire...like i said i have falken 452s that have a 300 treadwear...i also have a suspension with an all wheel alignment

jpetrovic

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoWheelOffsets.dos

The offset of a wheel is what locates the tire and wheel assembly in relation to the suspension. More specifically, it is the measured distance between the hub mounting surface and the center line of the rim. Below is an explanation of the various types of offsets which are pictured in the above graphic.

Positive Offset
A positive offset occurs when the hub mounting surface is on the street side (the side you see) of the center line of the rim. Most factory rims will have this type of offset.

Zero Offset
When the hub mounting surface is centered within the rim, it is known as a zero offset.

Negative Offset
If the hub mounting surface is on the brake side of the center line of the rim, it is considered a negative offset or "deep dish".

evil88accordLX

^^^ exactly right. if the motegi's are the same width as your current wheels, the 5mm shouldnt be a problem. if the motegi is wider, the distance between the center of the wheel and the suspension side will be greater, and thats when you will have problems. that said, if you like the wheels and must have them, you can always get spacers.
