It deadens harmonics. I pulled one from my car a while back and put it back. With it gone, the car vibrated more. Mind you that I'm not in it for all out performance, but in it for a bit of street performance. Noises greatly bother me.

it absorbs engine harmonics it is important. certain harmonics can get transmitted to the cross member and cause damage. any time something hits a specific resonant frequency,it will vibrate like a tuning fork. that piece cancels out that particular frequency.

i never messed with one...the more important ones are the ones holding your engine to the chassis

yes I agree, it is in line with the flywheel
anyone ever maniged to crack that cross member that runs under the motor? lol mk3gee has also chiped a couple teeth off the timing gear and snaped timing belt sheerd the left side mount off leaving a chunk in the block all at the same time and then getting its dented fender being hauled in the back of a army truck to a mecanic in the mounans of guatamala and then being down or a week waiting for parts to fix it and then driving away
