in this pic you can see that it's going to take about four coats to get the old white covered up nicely:

I will update this thread throughout this week while I keep painting it.

Comments welcome

Assuming you're leaving it two-tone, its going to look really nice when your done. Are you gonna do any wet-sanding between coats?

yes two-tone.. ive always wanted this paint scheme since i had my very first car. I am going to wet sand every two coats. And once I'm done buff the living hell out of it!!

have all that in mind... getting a new front bumper, rear bumper, blackhoused headlight and corners.. i like the 9091 trunk actually. im going with 3000k hid high beam, and 6000k or 8000k low beams and mount the lude fogs better or get oem/jdm ones....

shaved antenna and windshield washer nozzle(sp?) things. sanded down everything with 150 grit, then went back over everything with 400 for a smoother look, then paint.

no windshield washers? i couldnt live without those things. when i first got my 3gee mine didnt work (the hose was cut) and it sucked ass because i couldnt clean my windshield. my wipers would just smear when i used them.

OT: Why are you bothering with that car though? I had a 92 EX and I absolutely HATED that car, even with less than half the miles that my 3G has. It was heavy, it handled like a barge, and working on the brakes was completely impossible.

Keep us updated though! The car looks cool, I just can't stand owning one.

damn, you probably need a lesson or ten if you can't work on the brakes :slap:

handles like crap?? dont think so.. this would run circles around my old 3rd gen any day.. and I really had a lot of shit done to my ol 3rd gen.. this thing is 100% stock :slap:

sigh, children..

here's the third coat. I got really inpatient, more like desperate to just see what it would look like with all the tape off. So it only has three coats and it will stay like that. I am going to do some wetsanding of the whole car today and buff the crap out of everything.

onto the pics..

I fucked up with masking off the trunk area :( but oh well, with about less then $10 that I spent to do this, it was well worth the fuking time it took me

btw, what do you guys think about lightly tinting the tails?? or completely blacked out? or red/clears?? :dunno:

evil88accordLX

get you a roll of pinstripe tape and put it where the black meets the white and it will smooth out the transition for you. ive always thought a small neutral stripe between contrasting colors looks bad ass and helps add to the color change anyhow.

just get like some silver pin stripes :D

evil88accordLX
11-08-2008, 10:35 AM
silver is too in between of a color. you wouldn't even hardly notice it. get a color that will stand out AND compliment the other colors. like the blue from the tape. go look at the pics before the tape was pulled off. if it was just a thin stripe it would both set apart the colors as well as compliment them. a gold or darker yellow would look good also.

hmm.... ...interested to see the finished product. As for the tails, I have to lean toward getting yourself a can of candy-apple red, and redding out the entire lens. Then, get a 1/4" thick deep red pinstripe and stripe the transition to hide everything and create the break that a few have already mentioned.

Other then that, the only criticism I could give is where you made your line. I see how you picked the topline of the trunk, and hood, but I (for me personally) think it looks kinda funky on the sides being that it doesn't follow any side-lines, and is just a lil high of the window line. I personally would have picked either the window or body line as the break. Have you considered going with black on the side moldings, and the bumper moldings?

Edit: Not trying to be a prick, (and this one can stay because it's more about the paint then the car), but let's try and keep the Appearance/Pics sections to 3G's, and let the rest hang out in O/T.

sorry, i always forget to put all my crap in the OT section.. you can move it, i dont mind...

about the break, thats actually a body line that i followed. i really didnt like that much when i finished it, but it was only $10 and three days worth of work :D

will post more pics once i buff everything

edit: we should really get a "other cars/autos" section for crap things like this... just a thought.....
