Thx in advance. My computer messed up an posted twice sry for the clutter my bad.

Is your car lowered? The recommended size for 16" wheels is 205/45/16, I don't think your car would rub but then again I have no experience with a tire 10mm taller than it's supposed to be.

no it is not lowered.

You SHOULD be fine, based off of the fact that your not lowered....this in theory. You also need to take into account the offset of your wheels, how healthy your shocks and springs are (whether they sag/ dampen poorly). I have 205/50/15 tires with 33 offset wheels and I rub on bumps/sharp turns with 1 or more people in the back seat. With my 17" rims (205/40/17 40 offset), I don't rub at all.

Personally, i think 55 might be a bit too big. Don't forget that it's not just a matter of rubbing or if they'll "fit". Think of your tire/wheel as your last 'gear' in the whole equation. Changing the overall diameter of the wheel/tire combo will throw off your speedometer, and may offer a different 'feel' beyond that of just the comfort level.

The last bit of info that we do need is what your offset is on your wheels. As Toneloc said, his 205/50/15's rub, but that's not because of the tire, but instead because of the 33 offset. His 205/40/17's are damn near the exact same diameter of the 15's and I'm guessing they're a hair wider, but due to the 40 offset, there is no rub.

Regardless of your offset, if you're running 205/40's now, and you just don't like the harsh ride, bump them up to the recommended 205/45 and you'll notice a great difference. If your offset is between 40 and 42 (you might be able to get away with a 38 also) you can try to squeeze a plus-size of 205/50 on them, and I think you'll be fine.
