im getting rid of my beloved 3gee! i really dont want to. but i cant be having cars all over here where i live. i have 2 in the garage already, our '08 saturn outlook and now my '97 wagon. think $1500 is fair for it? its not rusty at all runs great but its not going to win any beauty contests either.
interior is very clean! im only the 2nd owner of it. lady i bought it from got it new in arlington TX. if it were in MI. for the past 20 years it would be a pile of rust by now!

check out the pics:

looks like a good buy to me. interior & exterioe are pretty clean. i would clean up that engine bay and maybe repaint the rocker cover too, should add some more value to the car

how many miles are on it?

I think if you find the right person you can get 1500 for it, but it may not sell very quick. All depends on what someone happens to be looking for.

yea but they both run into the car it looks like. think its a fix to a bad headlight switch?

bingo,we got a winner!! the ghetto ass white wire is a headlight toggle. something went haywire a few years back so i just pulled the fuse and re-wired the headlights. it works perfect but kinda ghetto,i know. i could have done a better job wiring but i was kinda lazy and it was cold as fukk out when i did it. toggle looks nice on the inside though and its in a great place to access drilled into the dash. at least i took some pride in that!!
the car has 157,000 on it. i never did anything aesthetic to the car or engine bay. i never gave a shit what the engine looked like. just how it ran. it runs perfect and does not leak anything. i have it on detroit craigslist and backpage for $1500/best got a few interested so far. if i dont sell it for at least $1200 im gonna hold on to it. i dont wanna give it away. ill just store it in my moms garage in the old hood out of the way. wont hurt having another car around huh? then down the road i can transform it into one of your guys sweet ass 3geez i see.
( you MoFo's have some nice rides on here)
and to be honest,im emotionally attached to this car!(i know, sounds stupid!) when i got this car i was flat ass BROKE!! one of the roughest times of my life $$ wise. we just a bad luck streak. my '98 grand cherokee blew the trans for some reason 6 months after i paid it off. wife just had our new baby girl,we had 2 mortgage payments at the time and $$ was tight as hell if not non existent. plus she was off work for a few months to boot. i bought this car with my last $500 from a collegue at work (i even had to make freakin payments on the $500!!) she was the original owner. this is my first honda or import i have even had. and to be honest i didnt feel to good driving it at first(im from a UAW big 3 detroit family going back to the 20's) BUT this car NEVER let me down even in the worse conditions. 30+ mpg's never hurts either. my jeep was getting around 12-15 mpg's. i never had to sink a major amount of $$ into my accord! just your basic maintenece. damn,im talking myself out of selling it as we speak.......

Based upon the latest used car values I think that is a fair starting price. In fact, you might start a little higher with the intent of letting the buyer feel good about negotiating the price "down" to $1,500. A rust free used car in your neck of the woods is a rare find and should command a premium.

By the way, my degree is from the University of Texas at Arlington.

If your '71 Pontiac is rust free that would truly be a miracle. My '72 spent only four years in New Jersey before we moved to Texas, but by the time I sold it there were rust perforations all over the place. At least with a convertible you were probably spared the leaky trunk from rust holes at the bottom corners of the back glass. I once took out the front bench to do some work and could see driveway through holes under the carpet. They didn't even use galvanized steel in car bodies back then.

shit no,that grand ville had rotted out lower quarters when i got it. trunk was a bit rusted out but that was an easy fix. i actually found quarters some from a '73 in perfect shape from a guys left over project and meticulously butt welded them in after i flaged them.( im by no means a pro body guy,i got a restoration and welding book and took my cheap $200 sears mig to it,took me all of my summer weekends to get it right) i took some tips from www.classicpontiacs.com too, those dudes are very good!
i only had to use a skim coat of dura glass for the finish up. it came out really good considering. only difference between the 71 and the 73 quarters is a slight lip in the '71 which i no longer have. and the '73 quarter panels have the wheel shirts. i persoanally dont like the wheel skirt look myself. otherwise this car was solid.

You got a lot more into it than I did. The '72 was my first car and I used it through high school and college and a little beyond. It had a vinyl top and those things worsened the rust problems on those cars. I used a lot of silicone bathroom caulk to keep the trunk relatively dry on rainy days. I used to scour the J/Y's a lot in those days. I ended up drilling the rear trailing arms and using a rear stabilizer bar from a '75 or so GVille and the 1 1/8 front bar from another similar car. The original engine and transmission were solid, but I messed with or replaced practically everything else. If I had the money that car would have been a good candidate for resto. I could easily go on, but this is a Honda forum, not an "early 70's GM road boat" one.

i know my clear is half gone but when it's wet you cant tell at all....

$1500 is very resonable for a 3gee in really good shape. I agree with everyone else, and I'd paint the valve cover. If the hood is popped, that's the biggest thing seen, and the buyer would probably assume that the engine is bodged together. Painting it makes it look so much better, and makes it look less worn.
