new problem... surprise.

Hey guys, just got the new alt installed and i goto fire it up and ive got nothing. no signs of crank, its like its dead. I've got interior lights, cig lighter, and the damn beeping, but ive got no clock no radio and no signs of fire,. help? ive checked all the fuses that i can think of, what gives

What wire? hmm, idk i'm dang sure everything is connected.. but ill give it another look at tomorrow. so if a wires not hooked up on the alt then it will cause the radio, clock and it not to start? wierrd..

Not sure, but it sure sounds like a starter wire is not connected.

It sounds like a fuse to me. Specifically fuse #21 in the underhood fuse panel. I know you have already checked the fuses, but you might want to double check the big ones in the underhood fure panel.

You did disconnect the battery prior to beginning the alt replacement, right? The heavy wire that goes to the alt isn't pinched or shorted to ground someware?

Actually, I took the neg. off before working on iut, but it must of swung back around, and it was touching the battery and it sounded like it made a tiny spark. I'm not sure if thats what this is, but I'm willing to be that there is a fuse blown somewhere because of it, and I can't find it! I'll check #21.

Check your battery connections. This may sound silly but my positive battery terminal clamp was bad and I had interior lights and everything but when I went to crank it nothing happened.

clean the black goo off the terminals
check the under hood fuses, the BIG ones, you can get them at pep boys, or the junk yard.. on of them will pop if you ground out the alternator wire by accident.

Yea Id say check fuses and starter wires, my starter wire came unplugged during a coolant flush on my car and couldnt figure out why it wasnt starting sure enough. :beer:

Well the problem was a 70 amp fuse for the battery was blown. Thanks guys!

That's the fuse I replace with a dummy when I put my car in long-term parking at the airport. It looks like the regular fuse, and the inside lights work, but of course it won't start. Not as good as putting a kill switch in the main relay circuit, but something.
