Radiator reserve tank

Hi,
My 87 DX has a small leak in the radiator reserve tank. Would it be wise to patch it up with something? If so any suggestions? I was thinking since it isnt under pressure it would work but I dont know about the coolant messing up the patch over time. Are there any other reserve tanks I could use or make?
