I have bought rear spoiler for 2nd gen VW Jetta. I am thinking of modifying it and fitting it on top of rear gate of my aerodeck. Originally I really wanted OEM optional rear spoiler but it is impossible to get hold of it because it is so rare so I have been searching to find one which has similar shape but not like Fast and Furious. Below is the OEM spoiler.

and below is the rear boot jetta spoiler (mine is black unpainted)

What I didn't know is that jetta spoiler is made out of SOFT urethane. It is not made out of normal urethane like our bumpers but soft like rubber. Also, there seems to be steel flat bar molded inside so that you can bend the spoiler to fit against the contour of the boot panel. There are 4 studs underneath the spoiler to fix against teh boot panel.

Obviously the jetta boot spoiler is longer to fit on the aerodeck's rear gate so I need to cut it in the middle and joint it. I have done this kind of job with FRP or normal urethane before with no problem but does anybody know how to mod these SOFT urethane spoiler?

My idea at the moment is;

(1) cut the spoiler into two
(2) cut them short to the size I want
(3) remove the soft urethane about 2inch from the jointing face to expose the steel frame on both parts
(4) joint the steel frame by welding or mechanical joint like screw
(5) cover the exposed part again with the removed urethane in (3) after removing some portion out from the inside and glue them to fill the gap
(6) use filler(plastic bumper filler?), smooth the shape and paint over (I don't know if normal plastic primer works?)

Any advice with experience appreciated.
